The check they gave you should only be for the damage to the vehicle. I had a check from the responsible parties insurance and gave it directly to the bodyshop and they mailed me two other checks for DV and personal injury

Hey bro what did you use to determine your diminished value?
The more I read about it the more I realized how hard it is to get anything from the insurance company. Most people I talked to including my insurance agent said if they make an offer take it. I was told 10% of the damage is a good dv. I thought that was bs. But it is what it is. I was just f glad to get 2200.00 out of them. With a total bill just under 7000.00 there offer was considered very good when I asked my agent about it.

How did you get the diminished value determined though? I was debating that dvassess website, I'll be speaking to my lawyer tomorrow

Hey guys,
So my car is almost finished from the body shop, I informed the at fault insurance that I would be filing a DV claim. They said that once the car was finished to show them supporting documentation and then we would go from there. So what should I be getting? A carfax report vs KBB value, dealer trade in value? All the above? Damages came out to around 9k
Thanks for the help!

Go to CarMax and simply tell them you want to sell it and what will they give you. You will get it in writing from them and it should say carfax shows it was wrecked and worth less. That pretty well is your best bet.

I sent a copy of my damages repair estimate and such from the shop, totalling $2,400 and apparently the company called MMI Consulting can provide paperwork to support a diminished value of $3,400 for $179.99. Only concern is the other insured only accepted 80% fault.

You had only 2400 worth of damages and got $3400?! Damn may have to try this MMI out

Well that's the estimate of MMI now it's a matter of paying them $180 for the supporting documents and seeing what the insurance pays out.

OK I'm not understanding this whole DV thing....what are you doing? And what is the benefit? Are you getting some kind of extra money after your car is repaired somehow? I don't understand
