my first mod was a freebee...thankfully theres no mass air meter to screw with here. its not nearly as awesome as zacks custom intake...but this will work for now...and i dont think theres much for gains left with this setup. a custom pipe with less bend would probably help a smidge...but im not sure its worth the effort. i work with composites at work..so i might make a carbon fiber intake tube at some point. i had the perfect length 3.5" madrel pipe left over from a old intake i made for one of my 95 gt's. im using a cheapo spectre filter(a huge one lol) and i have it as far into the fender as possible. watching the iat's compared to stock....im really not seeing any more heat. after a spirited drive...i pulled over and the filter and pipe were cold...and the manifold was also cool. so im not too worried about the heat. seat of the pants tells me theres more mid range tq..amd maybe a little more power up top. once the car is broken in (still keeping shifts under 6k) ill put the stock box back on and do a track aps 1/4 mile comparo. i doubt any of the aftermarket intakes will make more hp that this setup...atleast if there were more gains...it probably wouldnt be worth the 350$. it has a much higher pitched intake noise than the stock box. its xeryainly a bit louder.

Not bad for a cheap setup to get you by until later. I agree it is hard to spend $300+ for an intake. I had the airaid on my v6. It looked great and did provide some gains but for the price I probably wouldn't do it again lol. It's best to wait for a sale or get as big a discount as possible if you are going to buy an aftermarket CAI.

yeah this isnt night and day power difference...though i feel a small gain. im sure a tune would help get the most out of it. i know on one of the rental v6s i had...i pulled the air filter and i imediately noticed more tq down low....tells me that stock filter really sucks lol. im sure a k&n panel filter and a 3" hole in the right spot of the airbox would probably get you almost as much gain as a aftermarket intake. the stock design isnt "horrible"...i feel the panel filter is really small. and the inlet of the box while small...isnt "that" small. heck...if the gt can make 435hp through that same air box....it couldnt hurt our lil motors too badly. at some point i plan to do a ram air setup using the stock box. this diy intake is more of a fun, quick lil job to see how it performs. amd mostly because i cant help but tinker on cars haha

Looks good man. Most of the intakes for sale claim about a 10-15 HP gain. That is like 3-5% improvement, you wont notice it. The sound is a definite improvement though, I am very happy with my K&N.
