Differential leaking oil - pics inside

I just got off the phone with the service. They have told me that they are going to be changing the : pinion seal, half shaft seals, the "center piece". They will not be rebuilding the gears. I dont know what this means. I also dont know what center piece means here.

I also had this issue where there was a grinding/metal noise doing full clock left turns from stand still.

Are they opening up the diff itself? Is it bad that the entire diff is not being replaced?

Seal changes. Unless you were running the car with a fluid level well below normal you'll be fine. Seals can leak early or almost never. Just keep an eye at the same location after the work is done.

Thank you, what does it mean when they say they are changing “the center differential piece” (thats in addition to the seals). Is that the entire outer casing?

Way too ambiguous and in no way factory or industry "verbage." Changing the differential housing would require setting up all the clearances again, bearing preload, backlash, etc. A bit much for a weeping seal. I'd ask them to clarify.

Means that the ring and pinion will be re-used but they’ll be replacing the torsion differential because of the grinding.....it probably wasn’t set up correctly from the factory causing premature failure.
