I want people to be brutally honest here.

When you were told that your car is in and you were asked to come into the dealer to view the car and sort out any extras/paperwork eg finance arrangements, number plates, exhaust modifications etc before picking up the car OR just to view the car and no modifications and sign some paperwork -

HOW COOL DID YOU ACT ON THE DAY?

Did you manage to sound like a grown-up doing a business deal or did emotion get the better of you? Even after promising yourself and others the night before that you wouldn't get emotional/excited over the car? Did you lose it?

Experiences good or bad would be appreciated.

Cheers
Mustang Mick :)

Yeh Mick,

I picked up mine today and I was slightly wobbly. I took my drill and screwdrivers to fit my Lakin plates and was a bit nervous with the drill near my brand new car. But dealer I bought from had me prep all p'work a week or two ago - so it was like 2 minutes of paperwork, shown a few things I didn't know, fit plates then off..........nervously into the north Brisbane Gympie Road traffic rush. Not as tricky as picking up my first big bike, a VTR1000 Honda (up from a 175 Yammie) in Paramatta at peak hour Friday IN THE RAIN, exiting Action Cycles down an 800mm wide ramp out of the 1st floor...but close.....

Cheers

Hi Mick

We went to the dealer in the morning to get the std plates so we could take to the RTA and switch for our custom plate that were on hold there. We had a good look around the car in the holding yard so it still seemed like someone else's.

Then we came back in the afternoon by Bus! Plates and Lakin brackets in hand that the dealer then fitted (he came back a couple of time to check if it was how we wanted), we checked all the marks had gone and then sorted the paperwork. They had a nice area down some stairs at the back where it was a bit more private, we did have a plague with our names on and a balloon but it was nice and low key.

He gave me a run down of all the controls and offered to sync the phone but all I could think about was getting going.

It only felt like mine when I pushed that button.

Can I ask, did your dealer not want to pick up your plates from the RTA? Mine didn't want to either, but I insisted and he caved

My dealer would probably have done it but he was on hols at the time of organising and 'the office bods' said they deal with a different RTA so I just though I would do it. When he was back though he offered to fit the brackets, he saved all the Windows stickers etc - so no complaints.

Excuse the stupid question here, but does the car always come with standard plates even if you have told them that you have plates at the RTA. Can't they just put your plates on from the RTA and have it registered with them on. Why have two lots of plates, more paperwork?

Thanks.:headbonk:

Good question - maybe if I had the plates at the RTA the garage used then they could have shuffled the paperwork.

PS Don't forget to update the greenslip policy with the new Rego if you have changed plates.

There are a number of processes that occur.
If your trading a car, the dealership can do all the paperwork.
If your getting custom plates, have them sent to the RMS office nearest the dealership, and the dealership will do the rest.

Bottom line, your spending good $$$ make them work for it.

Iam not being nasty with the above statement. Your the customer, and as long as its not extreamly extravagant, dealerships will accommodate.
And you reciprocate by returning, or recommending others to the dealership

Better check with the dealer - I sent them to the local RTA and found the dealer uses one that is further away!

I think they were more excited than me - 15 months is a long time to keep up the excitement. I took it home and had a snooze - worn out.

It went smoothly for me. I didn't get emotional but that is probably because I have other Mustangs. The dealer picked up my custom plates for me and fitted them after I dropped off the Lakin plate holders. The dealer did a great job getting it ready for me and I had it within a week of it arriving in Melbourne and then coming to Adelaide.

My dealer offered to pick up the new plates and have them fitted for me. I just have to give him authorisation and he said he will do the rest.
