Last Sunday I stopped by a local Autonation Ford on Federal in Broward County, spoke with the Manager of the salesmen, Joe, and told him the price I'm looking to pay on a GT Premium. Joe told me he's only selling them @ MSRP (strong lol). I told him that's fine but I'm not willing to pay that, and I was on my way.

When I got home I emailed two salesmen and listed to them the features I want and the price I want, told them I have the money I have my loan and all else squared away. There are some offers on the table but I want the right price.

I get a call from that same Autonation Ford from a woman named Lakia. Lakia explains to me how my email was clear to them and they'd like to get me inside so I can speak with a man named Edy (same guy I got a bad vibe from first time I went here inquiring about the Mustang)

Fast forward to today, I'm there and surprise, Edy isn't there to even meet me. That was the first red flag. You have a sure shot buyer there on an appointment to see you and you're not even there? Ok.

So Lakia sets me up with some other guy (same guy who abused the PP Black Mustang on the test drive) named Joe.

This guy asks me what color I'm interested in, has my email IN HAND (features and desired price listed) and then disappears. Comes back with a fill out form, asks me for my drivers license, etc. I ask him what is this for and he says its information for my order. I ask him what about the price I listed in the email. He looks at me dumbfounded and goes..."this car starts @ 37k....MSRP's for 40k minimum"

I told him I'm not willing to pay MSRP, my desired price is listed on the email surely he saw it. He tries to get me to build the car online so I can see the price there and I explain to him I've built the car online over a million times I'm well aware of what the MSRP is. I told him my current best offer on the table is 39k out the door. He asked if he beats that price would I buy it for sure, I told him no because it depends on how much he's beating the price by, I'm in the market for the best deal not what comes first.

He gets up and goes to speak to his manager handle bar mustache Joe and then comes back and says that the price I'm asking for is not feasible. I told him thank you have a nice day and left.

Wtf. If you know the price I'm asking why even bother to waste my time if you won't agree to it?

Currently heading to Ft. Myers area to find better deals.

Can't believe these people.

Sorry you had to go thru that. Some people or dealership just don't get it. I am sure you will get what you want. Its a matter of time so just be patience.

Some greedy dealers will not sell the car for less than msrp. They won't take A,D,X,Z plan. I also had the same experience with a local dealer.
If they won't deal then go to another stealership. I am willing to go to a dealer up to 150 miles for a good deal.

I got my car from Coconut Point Ford in Estero (just south of Ft. Myers). They accepted X-plan, gave me more for my trade-in than my local dealer, and got me a better rate than my local credit union. I dealt with their internet sales guy, Ulysses Campbell. Got the whole deal worked out ahead of time before stepping on the lot (other than the trade in value) and was in and out within two hours of arriving. Easy peesy. I would highly recommend finding a dealer willing to give you x-plan on the car you want as that really cuts down on the amount of haggling you have to do.

I did all my "haggling" online via email and had three dealers below invoice all claiming they wouldn't be undersold. Didn't set foot in the dealership until we were ready to seal the deal. 3.25% under invoice(no plans). Is there any other way to buy a car in the internet age?

I don't have XPlan. I inquired about it about one dealership and the sales guy told me XPlan only applies if the company I work for is a Member of the association. How true this is, I'm not too sure.

I plan on going to a dealership around Ft. Myers area this Saturday, is it too late for XPlan? Exactly how does Xplan work?

X-plan is through companies that buy ford vehicles, you do have to obtain a PIN number and prove you work there, you also can get it by joining Mustang Club of America, the dealership has to provide proof to get paid for it

Google the x-plan program, that's the best way as its too much to type.
Short version:
If you qualify, you get a pin #. Take to dealer and get the price.

There is a thread stickied in the order section that details x plan. All members of the Mustang Club of America get 2 x plan pins pet year. It costs $50 post year to join. That's how I got my x plan pin.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you had a bad time at a dealership, the experience can be quite stressful especially with people who don't respect you or your time.

I was a first time buyer and I didn't want to be taken advantage of when I step in the dealerships. So like several users on this thread, I negotiated everything over the phone and email. I pretty much had 10 different dealerships bid against each other and I ended up with a good price (much better if I had walked in and pressured to negotiate).

A signed buyer's order over email ensured that they wouldn't throw any shady numbers at me. Good luck!

If you have USAA there is the car buying service and dealers compete to give you a good deal. My dealership doesn't participate but if you bring in your price guarantee they will match or beat the price. If you use a registered dealer you do get a little bit more of a break on the interest rate. I don't know if that is an option for the OP, but it could be for someone.
