So I brought my car to the dealership to have the hood repainted last week.

They ordered a new hood and the car sat in the parking lot for 4 days. They got the new hood, painted it and pulled the car into the bay to do a simple hood swap, wet sand and buff.

They call me in a panic telling me that the car wont run, its throwing codes like crazy and keeps stalling.

I have the HP Tuners ngauge in the dash.

I get up there and the ngauge is unplugged. The bodyshop manager tells me that she called the service tech over to read codes after the car kept stalling.

After i flip out, i call my tuner, and he tells me that they flashed the car and wiped my tune. Because it has a JLT CAI it keeps throwing codes and wont run without a tune. Makes sense.

I flash it back to stock and reload my tune and it runs fine.

The bodyshop swears no one touched the car while it sat and waited for the new hood. I don't believe them.

What are your thoughts on what could have happened? My tuner swears the only thing that could have corrupted the tune was the dealer plugging into the car.

Somebody was probably taking it for a spin and figured just unplug the ngauge so you wouldn't know.

But unplugging the gauge wouldn't remove the tune

Well someone flashed the tune obviously.
Maybe they were playing with your ngauge?

I thought about that, but they would really have to dig into the gauge to mess the tune up. Not really an accidental process you know?

I personally think the service department flashed the car when it came in. Maybe they update every car that comes in? No idea.

I know some depts fo run a check and blindly update if its not running the newest release. They probably did this and dont know that their checks auto install the updates. Or they knew they updated and just didnt want to admit that they messed up your car.

But they wouldn't waste their time updating a car at the body shop.

I'm irritated and perplexed, lol

Took my car to my dealer for an oil change, asked the service manager if they check/update the tune on cars he said yes. I told him my car is tuned and not to touch it. I took an extra precaution and placed a piece of masking tape over the obd2 port and marked the edge with a sharpie so I'd know if they messed with it. Got the car back, zero issues, tape still intact.

As long as the cars running fine just tell your dealer from now on that your car is tuned and not to mess with it, maybe avoid that dealer all together.

How often do they do that?
Do they just update when the car comes in for a service?

Just install a OBD port cover. 19.95 over at Steeda

Bright red tinted aluminum cover with big letters saying DO NOT FLASH

I just put a small dab of paint in the edge so I can tell if the cover was removed or not

I would say they probably do check to see if the latest software is on the car. Something to keep in mind, and discuss with the Service Manager anytime you bring the car in for anything.

Not sure to be honest, was the first time I took it in for service but it makes sense that they would check every time a car is serviced.
