My dislike for plastic, fake chrome is apparent as I've opined much to that extent here.

Recently I started de-chroming my interior. I had to have the console out to do the Steeda Tri-Ax install, so I removed the cupholder (6 screws) and dipped that an anthracite grey. I also masked off and dipped the shift bezel with the same stuff, and did the same with the shift knob.

All that being said, there are still three components that still have shiny faux chrome. I'd like to vinyl-wrap them or something but I'm not sure how to go about doing so.

-Steering wheel bezels

-Door pull

-Door handle

Does anyone have any info on what would be required to pull these parts and wrap them in a non-reflective film so that they A) don't look as gaudy, and B) don't shine light into my eyes as I'm driving against the sun in the evening?

Those parts aren't fake chrome. They're actual aluminum. Most of them anyway. Not positive about the AC vents.

The shift bezel, cupholders, and door handles are for SURE plastic. For SURE. I just had the cupholders out and it's absolutely plastic. Same with the shift bezel. My left door handle was replaced under warranty because the chrome appliqué was already peeling off.

The door pulls, maybe those are aluminum.

The steering wheel bezels? Possibly not fake chrome, but still rather bright where I'd like something more subdued. Every so often they reflect light right back at my eyes, and it's a bit of a nuisance. Not horrible, but it exists.

I couldn't get a decent photo of just the shift bezel/cupholders because my phone camera kept re-white-balancing the picture and making it difficult to suss out any change. Taking a wider-angle shot, however, makes the color change show up a little more.

Someone here posted pictures of their wrapped steering wheel bezels. I expected to not care for that but they looked GREAT. I'm definitely doing that when I install my GT350R wheel (without GT350R bezels).

I had a shop wrap my cup holder bezel, shifter bezel, door panel pull handles, and the steering wheel accents. The shop tried to do the door latch handles, but could not get them to stay put for a high traffic area. Still exploring options on removing those latch handles, the bezel around the gague cluster, and the PP gauges. The steering wheel was my biggest problem with glare, so I'm glad that was covered quick.

Still want to know what genius thought chrome accents inside the car would never blind the driver...

I am not a fan of chrome either. I did the shifter trim, cupholders, stereo knobs, speedo/tach trim, steering wheel trim, AC vents, and the aluminum dash piece flat black. Here is a pic of the steering wheel peices, done flat black.

For those of us who *REALLY* miss the Base S197 interior...

Wasn't there a member who de-chromed everything by essentially turning it into brushed aluminum and then sealed it?

That looks very good, and is quite similar to what I want. I worry about the durability of plasti-dip on the wheel, though, as that's a heavy-use surface.

How did you find the disassembly?
