If I remember right the early engines had low tension rings. So adding a blower increase ring seal. Ford basically put racing engines in these and kept the out dated break in procedure.
yea, I do recall something like that…I also find myself engine braking WAY less, and that has been noted as a possible culprit as well 😉

You couldn't trust a site like you're asking for, it would probably be run by some secret Chevy guy and he'd make us all look bad.

I’m convinced some of the failures can be directly attributed to owner behavior. More than any other car I have ever had, the voodoo is finicky and frankly feels downright fragile to me when it’s cold. It also demands complete attention to oil quality and level.

Before mine reaches about 180, the piston slap is very noticeable. It also just feels like shit. Sluggish, noisy, unhappy. The engine completely changes character when it’s warm. It wants to be hot. Demands it.

It also has bizarre oil use behavior. Sometimes I do 4K miles and don’t need to add anything. Sometimes at 2k miles it’s low a quart. It would be very easy to screw up oil level for someone not paying attention or going 8k miles plus without a change.

40k miles so far without any issues on a 2018. Knock on wood. I keep on top of the oil, and baby the shit out of until 170+ oil temp. And that can take miles and miles and miles. In cold weather I don’t see 170 the first 15-20 minutes.
Some? Most.

Failure rates are a percentage of the total number built. That makes them independent of quantity so it's possible to compare them.

The other point that came out in the analysis I mentioned in my earlier post is that the failure rate of modified Voodoo's was much higher than stock Voodoo's. People didn't realize that the Ford Performance factory-tune placed the engines closer to the limit than the factory-tune that parent company Ford puts on regular Coyote engines. The YouTube stars would gush about their great new aftermarket tune, wind it up the to show off and end up complaining that Ford was denying warranty. Happened a lot back in the day.
Ah yes, that old math magic called percentages. 🧙‍♂️

Low tension rings and 12-1 compression. My guess has always been that "gen2" motors got stiffer rings which would possibly result in lower hp.

What I know about my '16 that I had is that it shit the bed at 3K miles. That's the stuff I know, and I know that Ford knows its stuff which is why there is a 2nd gen voodoo. And the market knows its stuff which is why 19-20 cars go for more.
Maybe the 2019 and 2020 cost more because they are NEWER. LMAO

And add the people who dont know anything overblowing an issue
My '16 shit the bed at 3K miles from no fault of my own. I can't tell you how many times I've heard that I'm the type of owner people want to buy cars from.

Add denial to 16-18 owners. Add "it's your fault" add "you didn't take care of it" comments as weak argument. Values are what they are and there's reasons for it. Argue what you want but the market decides. My winged GT3 is worth less than a Touring even though it has better downforce. You don't see me whining about it.

Is it because you dont drive your cars?

Because my working theory is these cars dont do well if they sit and dont get driven

Would that make you feel better if I were to say that I don't drive my cars?
