Yeah, if you look at your VIN's 10th digit, you'll also see the corresponding letter on the plaque in your VIN, which lets you know the model year for this gen Mustang.

E.g.,
this is a 2015 GT350 VIN: 1FA6P8JZ9F5520104
this is a 2017 GT350 VIN: 1FA6P8JZ8H5521621

F- 2015
G- 2016
H- 2017
J- 2018
K-2019
L-2020
M-2021

When it comes to dash plaque chassis numbers for our GT350/R's there are a few additional aspects to keep in mind.

2015 - All 2015 GT350's and R chassis numbers were all lumped together which means that the "R" designation was not used for any of the 37 R models built such as "F0001" which was the 1st R model built and ordered for Bill Ford. With that being the case there was only 1 chassis number series for the 2015 model year compared to 2 and up to 4 for the following production years.

2016 - Because Ford did not use the "R" designation on the chassis number series for any 2015 R models, that same scenario carried over to some very early 2016 R models whereby their chassis numbers also did not incorporate an "R" into a few very early 2016 models. After the few early 2016 cars were built Ford then instituted 2 chassis number series for the 2016 model year.

2017, 2018 & 2019 - Ford maintained 2 sets of chassis numbers series for R's and non R's.

2020 - For the final model year Ford decided to institute 4 sets of chassis number series for the GT350/R's which was predicated on the launch of the "Heritage Edition Package" cars which initially created some confusion amongst us enthusiasts.

Looking back at the 6 year production run for the GT350/R's I found it interesting how Ford institued just 1 set of chassis number series for the 2015 model year and over time ended up with 4 sets of chassis number series for the final 2020 production year.

Quite an evolvement in just 6 short production years!!
