I really should look into what the laws are and related detailsBe careful with recording laws. Just because it happened to have him admitting it, even if it turned bad, doesn't mean it'd be usable in court. Idk what Canada's laws are on the topic.
Even if somehow this was your fault. Even if you were an Ass, and brake checked, insurance will always see this as the other guys fault. Don't worry about them changing their mind about whos fault it was, 100% of these cases, person who rear ends always at fault.I doubt the dash cam will be needed for this but it's nice to know it may have secured my claim today.
Unfortunately I was rear-ended today (everyone is ok).
I was driving home today and there was a hard almost stop on the highway. As I was breaking hard I took a quick glance in the rearview and saw a car coming up fast and bang, he hits me. Even though I only have a front cam I pulled into the shoulder (actually pushed in) and he pulled in front. From here on I have him on audio.
Before we exchanged information I asked him to sit in my car to write the info down and he agreed. It has him admitting to read-ending me and admitting to being distracted by seeing the CN Tower in the distance (he's from out of town).
He seems like a decent enough person and he was in the car when I called the insurance company and the call and all the details are recorded. He accepted responsibility but if he ever changes his story I have the recording of it.
Like I said. It probably won't be needed but it's nice to know it's there. I'll see if I can edit the impact and upload to youtube.
Sorry what I meant was at least 2 car lengths in front of you. One or less gives you less reaction time. However you are right about the distracted driver. How much damage to your rear end? Any pics?I was no where near tailgating him. When his brake lights went on there was lots of room. Maybe you should preach to the distracted driver that actually hit a car.
