Any engine builders run wide gaps? My customer bought rings for a 77mm bore and his engine has a 77.5mm bore. This results in a .078 end gap.

Anyway he wants me to assemble it. I said no I'll get the proper rings.

Question, has anyone run gaps this big and did the engine seal?

I don't have an answer for you.
I do have a question.
If you were to install the provided rings would your customer absolve you of providing any warranty?
Otherwise I'd say to do what you know to be right.

He told me at the beginning it was a standard bore which is 77mm.

He is cheap and doesn't want to buy the correct parts. I've been going back and forth with him on several items that he didn't want to open his wallet for. I'm fed up to be honest, and I'll eat the rings just to get it out of my shop. Last thing I want or need is for it to not run properly and then have him bad mouth me.

I ran my own business, a service business in construction/rehab for 20 years or so. Some clients you just cannot make happy. It's extremely frustrating when you are hired for your expertise and then ignored or undermined to save a buck no matter how upfront you are.
Good luck.

It's a FJ1200 Yam-a-hopper, installed in a legends race car. It had 80 PSI compression so the owner asked if I'd rebuild it. I should have said no.

I don't want to rant too much so I won't. It runs 10K RPM. Wiseco pistons and the XG ring pack. I'll probably lose 300 on this job because I refuse to do things half assed. It's my reputation and all.
