First one was a 14, second one a 16. I’ve had both about a year I’ve stored properly indoors, but prior to that can’t say, they were ebay close outs due to older date code but new. I just find it interesting this happened twice all the sudden in a row. The 14 is a 102y and the 16 is a 98y.
No other issues, grip was just as good as any other Cup 2.
as have I but not that old.Interesting. I ran quite a few of those close out Cup2s. Must've gotten lucky. Just seems like bad luck. Have you reached out to Michelin? They're pretty good about replacements
Good idea, hadn't thought about contacting Michelin and seeing if they were willing to help. It's not that big of a deal, I got 75%+ of their life used before this happened anyway. I'm more concerned about safety and the whole tire ripping off mid corner.Interesting. I ran quite a few of those close out Cup2s. Must've gotten lucky. Just seems like bad luck. The two tires came from different sellers on ebay, at different times purchased (apart by about 8 months). The second tire that did this is a 2016 year tire, which I purchased in mid 2019 and stored in my home. There's not much time before that that any improper storage could have caused some weakening of the exact same inner part of the tire.Don’t take this wrong, it’s not an attack on you in any way. eBay closeouts.
So you really have no idea how they were stored before you got them. I’d say there is a common denominator here.
I‘ve never seen anything like that.
Ya but not possible as this is hidden under the lip of the rim, totally unseeable on the 98y. You could see some of the tear above the rim on the 102y. The 102y totally separated and had the inside steel cable poke out at the end. The 98y was 75% torn around but still otherwise intact and unnoticeable.Almost looks like someone took a sharp box cutter and ran it around your wheel. Very weird
The only thing he said was possible low pressure but I’m thinking the TPMS sensor did not alert you.Just sent your pictures to a friend that’s been in the tire business for quite a while.
