My goodness, we are judgey group.

OP: I’m sorry this happened and glad no one was hurt. Like most of us, you probably learned something from it.

For the rest: if you’ve never had a similar lapse, I’m impressed.

Doesn’t seem like anyone is really judging the OP’s driving. Ok, maybe one. Most are judging the cop for giving him a ticket for driving too fast for the conditions when he was…. wait for it.…. Driving too fast for the conditions. Then some are judging the ones judging the cop. So judgey? Yep. But not so much at his driving.

Do you have any empirical evidence showing a higher percentage of cars with Nitto's crash versus Michelin?
Talk to your local Highway Patrol, DES, Storm Troopers, DOT what the hell ever they are in your region, that data is relatively available as Traffic Accident Data. Use Google maybe?

A few pics as promised. The car did a great job of protecting me, 4 air bags around me went off. It also called 911 pretty much immediately after I stopped.

Damn, what a shame. Beautiful car too.
Glad you're okay and the air bags did their job.
Keep us up to date on how it turns out for you.

Sorry for the loss OP, and definitely fight it, you don't want to get points now.

How disoriented were you when you said 70? Could be you were guessing, ticket clinic could fix this

This what the ticket clinic said. Sounds like I could still end up paying all or some of the fine plus this so I am not sure if it worth it or not. My main objective would be to keep it off of the insurance. If I understand this they would waive there cost if they can't get rid of the points assuming I meet the conditions listed.

The attorney fee for representation of your Georgia traffic ticket is $349.95
Our attorney will attempt to have the ticket dismissed or reduced to a no-point violation, which should not get reported to your home-state driving record. If we are unable to get this result, we will attempt to have the ticket reduced as much as possible, in an attempt to reduce the number of points that get reported to your home state.

Unless the attorney gets the case dismissed, you should expect to pay a fine and/or court costs. This amount may be the original price of the citation, however, our attorneys seek to obtain the lowest fine amount, but the exact amount will be determined after the attorney has negotiated a resolution.

We offer a money back guarantee that points will not be assessed by the state of Georgia, if the speed on the citation does not exceed 20 mph over the posted speed limit and you have not received any tickets in the past 2 years. Any school zone, construction zone, commercial driver license holders and/or accident cases, are excluded from this “money back” guarantee.

Even if I still have to pay the original amount and keep points off my record I consider that a win. any points in your license will be like 20 to 40% increase for the next 5 years. In Florida you lose your SAFE DRIVER discount for 5 years if you even get 1 point.

You are filing a claim for a totaled car. It is going to be on your insurance. That is going to hurt you more than a few points. Besides, from my understanding of Georgia law, you don’t get points for that particular ticket.

He was an ABSOLUTE dick. What an asshole.
I was a judge in traffic court for decades and I can’t remember ever finding someone guilty for driving 5 over.

Generally make and appointment with your insurance to retrieve personal property inside the car. Generaly most insurance will NOT ALLOW you to remove parts unless you want to buy them back at a price they set. The crash will be reported to CLU and everybody in the industry with access will know.

I didn't know our cars called 911 if the airbags are deployed.

On my 2016 it's an option in Sync to use the connected phone to call for help. IIRC if option is on, the car firsts asks the driver if they want that and if affirmative answer or no response, makes the call and plays a canned message for 911 including the location. So, might require factory NAV.

From what I read online it says it’s supposed to ask you if you want this feature enabled when you pair your phone. It was a long time ago when I paired my phone so I don’t remember if it did. Nice feature to have if you’re injured.
