Convince me to get 400a over 401a

Well to start off I plan on getting recaro's unless I can talk myself out of it so I lose a feature from the 401a.

it really comes down to the sound system. I haven't heard 401a yet but the 400a was a dud truthfully. For the life of me I can't find a car in person with 401a's between 3 states I've been in between december and the holidays.

I mean I'm trying to talk myself out of 401a and just get an aftermarket system in the 400a but those days of ripping off door panels and running wires and mounting subs/amps are over. Once you pull it apart it's never the same again....so that's why I want to go 401a so I never touch the speakers.

My current car has a decent sound system for what it is and while it isn't audiophile by any means it doesn't "suck". My wife's 2015 rogue has a full Bose system in it and while I'm a Bose hater in the home theater (over priced mehness) it sounds really CLEAN with moderate amount of bass coming from the sub.

I'm not a boom boom boom person. I prefer music the way it was meant to sound. I don't listen to rap. Mainly edm and wife's pop music. However I just don't want to listen to a dud system when I'm in the car alone. I also wouldn't spend a butt load on an aftermarket system.

Is it smart going with 401a for my taste or should I go 400a? It's $1800 i can save obviously...but it might be $1800 worth spending to never rip the interior apart...i just don't think I could be content on 400a and i don't want to lose truck space with an aftermarket sub box. etc. etc.

Honestly both suck. Zero guts. I don't listen to rap. But ac/dc van halen foo fighters sound gutless.

Get the 9 speaker system to get the touch screen, then add a 5 channel amp and seperate sub

Khyber, like you I like a car stereo to sound good, but I was simply not
willing to throw an after market system in the the new car so I opted for
the 401A pkg. With the right settings for bass, mid and treble it sounds
just fine for muscle car. Besides once you start pulling panels and swapping
systems rattles and noises start to appear. That would drive me crazy. But
this Shaker Pro system beats the hell out of the old AM/FM radio +
cassette in my old 69 Mach 1. Hopefully my car will be here next month.
But who knows... still no build date nor has COTUS updated since the VIN.

Quite the conundrum you have! I see your point and agreed. I am also at the age where I don't want to have to tear anything apart and run new wires. It's a PITA. If i had the money, I would have gone with the 401A. I know I would have been fine with the Shaker Pro. That would have been enough for me.

No rattles if you know what your doing. My current 1969 z28 has no rattles. I had the sub frame out of that car, along with everything else.

Anthony, I have rebuilt many cars. When you start messing with these new
dashboard and head units there is always a chance for rattles. I have seen
it in many show cars. But for me, I am too old to mess with this stuff any
more. I just want to drive and enjoy and let Ford worry about it should
there be anything wrong.

BTW, nice on the 69 Camaro. That body style was always my favorite.

Khyber, I have the exact same dilemma. I want to blast the Zeppelin etc. when I'm in the mood, and want the sound quality and depth. I'm willing to shell out for the cost of the 401 if it will measure up. Or use the $1800 to upgrade - but extremely reluctant to start ripping apart anything! Hell no.

I have no answers yet. I've decided on everything else (except for aftermarket wheels and exhaust)...

Glad to see some comments on here. From what I see so far, I'm leaning toward the 401.

Had to go on Ford's site to see the packages...

For me IMHO...I LIKE the 401a, the Blindspot is a nice feature, and I did not get the Recaros in this car so the memory seat is nice...I also like the Shaker system and the Sub does not take too much truck space, this did a good job with sliming it down. Its a great car either way! Good luck

yeah it's just when i look at it, it's like damn $1800 for ford's system(recaro's cancel out memory seats but i suppose there is BLIS too.)... $1800 would be an awesome aftermarket system for that money even knowing I wouldn't spend that much on aftermarket either....ah decisions decisions.... my wife says go for 400 and save the money but she won't be the one driving (she can't drive a manual) or listening most of the time

I have to say the shaker audio, the memory seats/mirrors and the BLIS are worth the money all day long. The cross traffic alert is really good as well. It picks up cars quite a distance away.

I would regret not having it.

If the says do the 400, you have to do the 401a! If you regret it later, it won't be good around the house! BTW, the new seats are super comfortable and have great support...if you will track it do the Recaros, but the new seats could be used for track day's and do well...I have the Recaros in my 2014 GT500, and you need them in that, the 2015 I have to say super impressed and more comfortable for a DD than the Recaros...again IMHO...

yeah i'm still trying to figure out why i want to spend more money on seats and lose heated and cooled and powered seats haha...the recaro's just give you that race car cockpit feel and they look sweet....and the car will probably be 95% dd. I don't even know where i could track it around here and i'm definitely not into autocross.

I have recaros and got the 400A
Sounds not too bad, but if you're an audiophile you won't stop at the 401A level anyway.

Looooove the seats, and the iPhone on Bluetooth doesn't sound too bad as long as you play with the eq on both phone and sound system.

Khyber, we might as well meet up and debate this together. I had the same issues regarding the Recaros as well - give up the heated/cooled seats and pay out all that extra cash for a car that I'll spend most of my time driving on the mountain roads around where I live? But...I'm a small guy, and those Recaros feel SO SO good! I know it's different for different sized people, but man I've just got to go with them, even if I rarely if ever track the car. They feel like they're fitted for me. I've never had heated/cooled seats, so I'm not sure what I'd be giving up. Maybe that's a good thing?

When it comes to the audio, I think about it this way. Will I regret it 5 years from now? I know the $1800 is a ton of change, but I hate the thought of making what is a once-in-a-lifetime purchase for me, and then regretting not getting exactly what I wanted.

Finally...how do we determine where we can take our cars to the track?
