I'm about to order a 2015 Mustang, but trying to decide whether to order a convertible. I have kids that may ride in the back sometimes. Does anyone know whether the convertible has any rollover protection beyond the windshield frame?

There is always not driving in a way that will cause it to roll over. :D

There never has been in the past and I have not seen any reason to believe that will change. There are, of course, after market cages. But if you are looking for some kind of magic popup bar like some high end verts have, it's not there.

Thanks for the confirmation. I've had an older GT convertible with no rollover protection, but I was single and didn't care about safety.

Not just saying this to be contrary, but let's not forget that some accidents occur through no fault of the driver. You could be the world's safest driver and still roll over if, say, a multi-car accident caused by someone else forced you off the side of a steep road. Just sayin'...

In other words, if you're concerned about roll over protection, perhaps you ought to purchase a vehicle better equipped for that. You can never totally mitigate away accident risks merely by being a 'safe' driver.

Just to be clear, I added the smiley to indicate I was being a bit snarky with that comment. I am well aware that rollovers can occur at no fault of the driver of the rolled vehicle.

There are cosmetic light bars that specifically state they are not roll bars, but in my opinion, have to be better than nothing. I had a CDC bar on my 2005 convertible.

Check this out:

also, the S550 has a lower center of gravity than the SN95 & SN197, so it'll be harder to rollover to begin with.

and like Aipaloovik said: "There is always not driving in a way that will cause it to roll over."
I used to drive an old 1977 Toyota Corolla. That thing would go up on two wheels at parking lot speeds -- literally, I one time had the driver's side (inside of the turn) wheels go a foot up in the air at 20 mph making a turn in a parking lot. You can never tell when something is going to happen.

Part of the reason to buy a Mustang is to have some fun in it.:)

I'm more worried about other drivers doing stupid stuff and causing an accident. For sh*ts and giggles, I test drove a VW Beetle R-Line convertible across the street from the Ford dealership. It surprisingly drove well for a girly car, but it was cheap and felt like it. The point is that such a cheap car had pop up rollover protection. I'll still buy the Mustang convertible, but just won't allow anyone to sit in the back even if they were able to fit back there.

I just don't get where these topics come from.

If you're afraid you might kill your kids, then buy a Volvo.

Sorry for being blunt.

There are varying degrees of safety and risk people will accept. There are plenty of convertibles that are safe yet don't require you to buy a Volvo.

Only Sith deal in absolutes....and apparently Obi-Wan was a Sith :)

What a stupid thing to say. Just because the guy wants to be safe does't mean he has to sacrifice the car he wants. He was just asking a question.

Perhaps the reason the Bug you drove had pop-up rollover protection was because it's chassis wasn't built as strong as the Mustang's.
