Cold air intake

While perusing the various CAI available and trying to decipher if it invalidates my warranty I examined the stock air cleaner set up. There is a feed tube from the driver side grill to the air cleaner. But there are only 5 out of possibly 12 openings in the grill open, the balance are factory closed. We know the 5.0 loves air, why not drill out the entire vent to allow probably 100% more air into the cleaner, similar to early Cobra model that had air scoops where the fog lights were on the GT models? Anyone else notice that the grill restricts air input and rather than spend $3-400 for CAI just open up the front grill? Thanks for your thoughts and replies.....

Try "honeycomb" or "grill".. Alot of times with search fewer words are better especially if your searching just thread titles.

OK, thanks, found the 2015 thread about Big Mouth development, but all the pictures are blank? Ready through trying to see if they developed a prototype.

Found it where they are now selling it as the Ram Air Intake kit, great news and pictures. Going out tomorrow and start removing all the solid parts and check the flow of air. One question, there is a big plastic bubble sitting on the air tube, inside the engine compartment looks like a "Atom bomb" plastic, what is this and can it be removed and hole sealed?

The stock box does have upper limits still, and with a performance filter and something like the mishimoto tube, flows well. The larger CAIs will make more power still if you rev higher (like GT350 manifold) or go to LT headers.

Anyone tell me what the mushroom cap plastic item is for sitting on top of the air intake going to the filter?

It’s a resonator.
