Last night my clutch took a dump on me. Hope it is just the clutch and not the transmission. The car is less than a year old with 16000 miles. I get the feeling that I am going to have to fight to get it covered under warranty. I know the clutch is a wearable item and usually not covered but it should last longer than a year or more than 16000 miles. The car has never been to the track, never done a burnout. I baby her, hell I am still running on the factory Pirelli summer tires with plenty of tread left. Anyone else have this issue and did they cover it under warranty?

The MT-82 is not meant to be used like a sports car uses one. You should have known this when you purchased it. It's only to make the car go forwards and backwards under idle. Any stress and you're calling a tow truck.

Sucks. If they do not cover it, decent aftermarket solutions that are more stout are worth the $$ to put in.

sometimes they cover these under warranty but it depends on the dealership, and your rapport with the service department.

Isn't that more of an ON/OFF sort of device? Is it street/daily driver friendly?
You must be referring to the RXT / ceramic. Summit Racing says this about the RXT:

Capable of handling up to 1,000 hp, the RXT Street Twin clutches are for those who've kicked it up another notch—but still require streetability. The ceramic facing on the clutch discs provides slightly aggressive engagement with a soft pedal effort, making these clutches suitable for most street performance enthusiasts.

They are perfect for street or strip.

I give it a 0% chance to be covered under warranty. Not only is it a wear item(granted should've lasted longer), but with tune, shifter, and clutch cable upgrades no chance.

RST is what you seek. Well, we seek. I want one too! Dread it if it goes out on me, but I'm prepared mentally.

Update!

My dealer, Elder Ford Tampa, replaced my clutch under warranty. They let me know that it was due to the "Good Graces" of the dealership that they did it though. The paper work states that the clutch material seperated from the clutch disk and went everywhere. I tend to think the clutch had an issue all along since the new clutch seems much better than the original ever did. Thanks to the dealership but I still think it was Fords responsibility since it appears to have been a catastrophic failure of the clutch itself.

Sweet! Glad they fixed it. But I think it is a little much when they say "due to Good Graces".

I still say that these factory clutches are not made correctly. I'm wondering if they are just riveting the clutch material to the disc, or are they using a combination of bonding material (AKA: glue) along with rivets.
Good for your dealership, they do get to make the call on a wear item like this. If I buy a set of brake pads from an auto parts store, they are guaranteed until they wear out. If the pad surface came off the carrier plate, they are replaced under warranty. Why can't Ford do this for these clutches? Everyone I have seen photos of have been the clutch material flying off the plate. I've yet to see a failure of one just worn down.

Mine went last night at 2100 miles lolol.:headbonk:
I bought the car with 6,6xx miles on it and have been dealing with clutch issues since the first week of ownership. After countless trips to the dealer, it finally went out yesterday at 18,9xx miles. I'm an experienced manual driver and find it funny how crappy these clutches are, especially when it comes to the car they're used on. I took it to the nearest dealer to see what's up and he said "You've got a tune, your clutch is toast. Everything from this point is customer paid".

Ive got an appointment with the dealership that I've been going back and forth with on Friday but due my bolt-ons and tune, I doubt they'll cover it.

Sucks. I didn't plan to have to replace my clutch this early and I don't have ~$1,800 sitting around for parts + labor.
