I managed to snag a Thinkware F750 off of amazon before prime day with a warehouse deals coupon for $160. Its just the front cam, but I'll likely add the rear one in the near future. Mostly mundane things caught so far and I hope it stays that way. I did watch a guy in a Prius drive through a red the other day though.

Typical Prius driver.

Yep. I've been meaning to get one for months, I just don't know which one to get.

Thinkware F750 or the new F770 (more money)
They both beat the blackvue 650 hands down.

If you aren't in that price range, I have no advice

it's a brilliant cam, get it hardwired gives you so much more buck for your pound or $ :D
when you press the engine start button, tells you how many events have happened while you have been away, then link up your phone and check the footage

If you aren't in that price range save up. Most of the others aren't worth it. The korean cameras (think ware, black view)are significantly better than the Chinese ones.

Yep, hardwired for exactly that reason. I love the parking mode and how easy it is to review. Downloading video to phones could be faster though. At least you can without removing the card though!

Just beware: The camera can be used to help hang you too. You get in a wreck because you had a rectal cranial inversion, and the police know you have a camera, it can be used against you.

Seeing these videos confirms I must trade in my mustang... and move onto my next dream vehicle.

A F150 Raptor, with zombie spike bumpers, it'll impale anything infront of my truck.

More and more of the trucks you see on the highways have cameras. This is at least partially because more and more trucking companies are no longer rolling over for anyone who says they're going to sue them. It used to be they would cough up $20,000 to almost anyone just to get them to sign a settlement. No more. More and more drivers were complaining about it.

Now...here's the good news/bad news. If the camera shows the trucker messed up (and about 30% of the time, it does), the company will settle quickly for a lot more than $20,000. If the camera shows the car messed up, he will get a bill for all damages, injuries, downtime for the truck, etc. Imagine getting a half million dollar bill from the trucking company while you're still in the hospital!

And here's the really bad news. Those cameras record all the time, but only hold a few minutes of data, so when an incident occurs, it's uploaded on the communications link (which is satellite in some cases, cellular in others) almost immediately. What triggers a recording or an upload? It varies, but if a driver follows within 2 seconds at more than 20 mph for more than 2 minutes, there will be a report and upload. If a vehicle pulls in front of the truck within two seconds (which at 60 mph is 176 feet, or about 3 truck lengths), the camera starts recording. If the vehicle then slows down, a recording is triggered. If anything causes the driver to apply the brakes heavily, a recording is triggered. What happens to all these recordings? Well, some are used for training. Some are used in court, obviously. And the insurance industry is trying very hard to get access to the databases containing these recordings, because the car and license are identifiable. How would you like to get a call from your insurance agent who says, "We're doubling your insurance rate because we see you have a bad habit of driving aggressively around trucks?" Well, I don't see that happening soon, but with the ability to cross index a large database by date, vehicle, etc., I can't imagine it not being the case eventually.

By the way, a still from such a video can identify the vehicle, the date, the time, the location (to within a few feet), and the speed and direction of travel of both vehicles.

Since these cameras starting appearing in our fleet, a number of drivers have dodged a bullet, like one guy who got clipped by a passing car, who then claimed the driver clipped him. And another got hanged when the camera proved he was speeding in a school zone.
Random truck story for you that I thought was interesting (sorry, don't have any of this on video!). Still not clear on how this panned out in my coworkers favor.

First, a little back story. My company's headquarters building is on a big horseshoe shaped loop with both ends "T-ing" into a main road. The northern "T" intersection has a traffic light with the main road. Unfortunately, the southern "T" intersection, which is what most of us use as it's right next to our building, just has a stop sign for those coming from the loop and turning onto the main road. Hopefully the attached PDF (if it works) can illustrate the following a bit better.

Of note, the southern "T" intersection in question is pretty wide. Wide enough for an impromptu left turn lane and right turn lane although there are NO painted markings delineating any of this. It's just pretty much known that cars on the right side will be making a right at the stop. Cars on the left side will be making a left at the stop. The main road, at this intersection, has no traffic light or stop sign.

The thing is, there are also a lot of big business's on the loop that have lots of 18 wheelers (including a big UPS hub) coming in/out all day every day. Many times, when getting to this intersection, you'll see an 18 wheeler over on the "left" side of the exit, but it's obvious he's making a right and just needs the extra space to make the turn. What's more, even in the unlikely even that the 18 wheeler was making a left, you wouldn't be able to see around him to safely make a right turn onto the main road and would need to wait anyway.

Well, we recently hired a guy at my company who was straight out of college (kids these days...). As a gift to himself for his first real job, he purchased a brand new 2016 Subaru WRX (this was about 2 months ago). As a previous WRX owner, I gave him lots of advice and answered many questions prior to the purchase. About 2 weeks after the purchase (I believe he had 600 miles on it), he pulls out of our office parking lot and approaches the "T" intersection to make a right. However, there was an 18 wheeler that was sitting over on the "left" side. Supposedly, the 18 wheeler had his right turn signal on, making it clear that he was making a wide right turn once there was an opening in traffic.

For some dumb reason, my coworker "thought" the truck was making a left turn . Anyway, he squeezed his new WRX to the right of the 18 wheeler to make a right turn. The thing is, this was kinda dumb anyway because as I mentioned, since it's a Stop sign, you can't see around the truck to make the right turn anyway! You can pretty much guess what happened. Truck sees a break in traffic and makes his wide right turn...not thinking that some dummy would squeeze their brand new car in. The trailer of the truck scraped the entire drivers side of the WRX, pushing it up and over the curb while practically shearing the roof off before the trucker realized what had happened! WRX was totaled. Coworker was perfectly fine tho.

From hearing this story directly from my coworker, my first thought was, "you're dumb. It's definitely your fault". Incredulously, somehow, someway, my coworkers insurance company won the battle of who was at fault. They blamed the trucker. Apparently the trucks insurance paid for the totaled WRX plus an additional settlement. A couple weeks later, my coworker went in and bought a brand new 2016 WRX STI! WTF!

Sorry, random story but I thought it was kind of fitting. I'll have to see if I can obtain and upload pics of his WRX all torn to shreds.

I have a cam in both my Focus DD and Mustang, of course the Focus one went out for some reason just a few weeks ago...

Coming home down I-75 yesterday, notice a Scion TC can't stay in his lane and when I pass by it's an older guy staring blankly ahead so I made sure to stay past...5 minutes later he flys by going about 110 with his turn signal on and I'm like wtf??

So as it goes from 3 to 2 lanes he makes his move past a semi and 4 cars in the merge lane, takes out 3-4 barrels plus his right side mirror and now has a piece of something hanging off under his car....

Keeps going like it's nothing...other cars try to follow but he's basically bouncing from one side to the next in a construction zone and his whole left side he ran against the concrete...he was using the wall as his guide straddling lanes..

I call 911 and after the 2nd time get through and they transfer me to Highway Patrol, unfortunately he got off around Wesley Chapel 2-3 miles later and they told me not to follow anymore.

Pissed my cam wasn't working.....but another reason why everyone needs one he wouldn't have known he hit anyone unless his car stopped.

Well, according to the Highway Code in the UK, the Lorry was in the Left Hand lane and turned right, your coworker was in the Right Hand Lane and turned Right. Of course your coworker won the case
He had the right of way, the Lorry was in the wrong lane, over here, the lorries stay in the lane and as they turn they go wide, so you know to stay behind it.
By your picture, he could have turned in the Right Hand lane then gone wide. I agree with your coworker, he was in the right
Its not his job to know that a lorry in a Left Hand l is turning Right
The lorry driver should have seem the car, and let him go, how could he not see the car?

Keep in mind, there are NO markings for a right or left turn lane. As I mentioned, it's a very wide exit that "allows" for vehicles on one side or another but technically, it's a single lane road. The truck was at the stop sign/exit first and supposedly had his right turn signal on. Just because he was closer to the left side doesn't technically put him in the left "lane" since no such lane exists.

That's what makes this an interesting case for who is at fault IMO.

She was too impatient to wait for the van to turn first. And of course she was on her phone.
