My 2021 Mustang Gt started making this loud clicking noise when I start up the car and am Idle. The clicking will then speed up as I press the accelerator. I have a video of the sound linked 🙏.

This is known on Coyote motors as the "barbeque tick." I encourage you to search the forums on this subject because it is widely discussed.

In short, 1. You probably first noticed it after an oil change 2. It's completely normal (not a problem in most cases) 3. You can get rid of it by putting Ceretec in your oil.

Sounds like an exhaust component (cat? heat shield?) expanding or vibrating. It doesn’t sound regular enough to be the typical coyote engine tick that people fret over.

Welcome to the BBQ tick club. We are one million strong.

Currently the only known fix is to dump a whole bottle of Liquimoly Ceratec into the engine and that will stop it. Or use a heavier than factory oil weight. Not sure why but just use the Ceratec. Its a high quality engine oil additive and most here use a fresh bottle with every oil change. Otherwise the minute you change the oil, the tick comes back. Mine did the same as well as many others, and the Ceratec stopped it. Advanced auto near me stocks it for like $25.

Thank you so much for responding. Yeah I've looked everywhere and wasn't sure if it was the Infamous BBQ Tick, just because I didn't think others sounded quite like mine. Anyways, I went ahead and ordered some Ceratec since It wouldn't hurt to try. Should be here this weekend, Thanks again.

That makes sense to me since this doesn't sound like the BBQ Tick sound I've heard in videos. I still ordered some Ceratec for the car and I'll see if the clicking is still there. If it is, I'll hopefully go ahead and get under my car this weekend to try and pinpoint the sound. Thanks again!

Thank You for the reply. Any suggestions as to what oil I should be putting in my car? I went ahead and ordered a bottle of Ceratec and it should be here this weekend. I'll update the thread to see if it worked! Thanks again.

It's fine. Your main thing is to watch your oil consumption. That's key.
