Hey guys,

I got my front bumper covered with XPEL ultimate yesterday. It was pretty late/dark when I picked it up yesterday, so I didn't notice it till this morning that two pieces of the bra connect right at the front of the bumper. Is this normal? Can clear film not go around the bumper without being cut there? I'm ready to take it back if they took the easy route.

Mine is one piece there.

Edit: which part of the bumper is that? Hard to figure out the orientation from the pic.

Haha, it's looking at the bumper straight on? Or is it only appearing like that on my browser? The picture is showing the left side of the bumper. The bottom left of the picture is the bottom left of the bumper haha. The vertical line in the middle of the picture is the line of the 2 different pieces of bra coming together at the left center of the bumper.

Go online to the Xpel site. You can find the shape of the bumper film as cut by the plotter. Compare that to your seam. I don't know if these patterns are posted at competitor brands. But it's a good way to answer your own question.

I think maybe it was too long so they have to take some of it off?

I think it depends on the installer. I don't think shops use pre cuts but make sheets fit.

Is there another seam in the same place on the other side?

You could give it a week or two to see if it still bugs you. (It would be more noticeable on a lighter colored car.) If it doesn't still bug you, you could ask them for a discount in lieu of demanding they replace it. The bumper is very difficult and expensive for them, and that may explain the seam.

I had XPEL applied to the entire front bumper, the front third of the hood and both side mirrors.
The front bumper film was applied as one piece - no seams.
Although the film is difficult and time-consuming to work with, it can and should be applied as one piece.
I would take it back to your installer and demand that it be redone correctly.

I can provide insight on this for you. I own a detailing shop where I hire installers to do PPF on cars. I had my guy do my s550 front end and he he made the exact same cuts on my bumper. I argued with him (resulting in him not working with me anymore,) but he showed me the pre cut diagram and it does in fact have the cuts in those areas.

So your answer, if your installer uses pre cut templates for installation, those cuts are from that and normal. The bumper CAN be done in a single piece but is much harder to install.

As far as a leg for you to stand on with having them re do it. Good luck, you took delivery of the car. Also, maybe they should have possibly told you they use templates, but an educated customer would have asked before hiring them for the work. Im Not saying don't talk to them, but don't be surprised if they are not willing to jump and re do a $300-450 install for you again not to mention the PITA job of removing the film and adhesive.

Good luck

I would like to give some insight on this matter. I personally own and operate a clear film/detail business and have installed film on over 60 S550 mustangs. It seems to be a pre-cut kit but it is definitely not a pattern from XPEL, it looks just like a pattern from Suntek. How do I know, well I have both programs and I remember seeing this pattern on the Suntek page and thinking why would they put a seam there. Also these bumpers are not hard at all, plus being a new install, the film shouldn't leave behind that much adhesive. I hope you find a proper shop to redo this. Good luck
