I just got the check engine light yesterday on my 2018 Mustang GT. Car is stock with no mods. Only 3200 Km on it. Planning on taking it into the dealer tomorrow or Tuesday but does anyone have any idea what this could be? Has this happened to anyone else with their 2018? Car still drives totally normal and as far as I know the CEL came on during normal driving (still winter here in Canada so no crazy acceleration possible on these roads). Thanks

Isn't the Canadian Check Engine Light like the US Check Your Tire Pressure Light.....lot's gets lost in the exchange and going from KPH to MPH....or not.

Not sure, but one thing it means for sure is that it's going to cost you 33% more to get fixed than it would south of the border.

You guys are mean! lol> he's just worried about his brand new car. Can't you take it to Canadian Tire to get the computer scanned. In the U.S. lots of local auto parts stores will scan it for free. Anyway, take it to the dealer ASAP.

The most common causes of CEL with no other symptoms are some sort of failure in the emissions system. It could be almost anything, from a flaky O2 sensor to an intermittent misfire or CAT not heating up as fast as it should. There is no way to know without reading the codes. I would blame the gas cap, but there isn't one.

Canadian tire would charge for that.

Since he has warranty, it is best to go to the ford dealer.

Tough crowd :-)
Surely I can't be the first 2018 GT owner to get the CEL. Just looking to see if any other 2018 GT owners have had the same experience.

Thanks TomcatDriver for the suggestions.

I will update the tread once I get more info from my dealer.

Do yourself a favor and buy an OBDII scanner on Amazon.com for about $35. It'll pay for itself the first time you use it.

Take it back to the dealer. Don’t hook up any scanners and don’t take it to craptastic tire. But nobody has to tell you that.

Update:
Dealer said once they drove the car into the bay the light was off however the code reader complained about a "misfire". They checked the car, took it for a good test drive (I'm sure they did :-) and no other issues reported. I'll keep an eye on this and hopefully that is the last misfire. Anyone know if the engine requires several misfires before it turns on the CEL or is a one time event enough to trigger the CEL?

Just got the Codes from the paperwork: P0300(random misfire) and P0316 (generic powertrain code related to misfire)
