I installed longtubes without cats a few weeks ago. I have put about 250-300 miles on the car and keep getting the same codes which are P2096 and P2098. I was expecting to get P0420 and P0430 which are catalyst system efficiency below threshold. Any ideas why I'm getting the P2096 and P2098 codes which are post catalyst too lean?

P2096 - Post catalyst fuel trim system too lean bank 1
P2098 - Post catalyst fuel trim system too lean bank 2

What do your fuel trims look like? Are they insanely positive? I would assume the car is idling really lean and thats why you got those codes instead of 0420/0430

At idle the car smells extremely rich. It is considerably richer and much more of a gas smell than my 2000 and 2001 which both have longtubes with no cats.

Sounds like you did not get a tune. If not that's your issue

I do not have a tune. From everything that I have been told and read on the forums, the tune only turns off the rear O2's and does not really change anything else. The lean code just seams really strange to me as the rear O2's should be sensing a rich condition compared to a car with cats.

You need a tune to turn off COT and the rear o2's. Why you thought you didn't need a tune after the longtubes is baffling.
