Changing wheel studs?

Planning to go with a set of 15 mm (approx. 1/2") spacers for my 20" foundry wheels and wonder if it is easy to change the studs to a 15 mm longer.

Can I knock them out with a hammer or do I need a hydraulic press?

Would these fit? If they are to long I can always cut them

So you changed back to 1/2"x20 lugs? Instead of the OEM M14x1.5?

Another choice is to get a adapter instead of a spacer that will cut the hassle of switching studs out for you.

The knurl size on these might be a little small (15.7 vs 15.88 on the OEM stud). The Dorman 610-509 has the right knurl size but the shoulder might be too long (17.15mm vs 13.72mm for the OEM Mustang stud).

You can try the Ford FCPZ 1107 A (for an F-350). It is an M14 1.5, has the same knurl size and is about 10mm longer than stock for the Mustang. I'm going to try to find an F-450 stud and see if it has the right length.

One other option is the Eibach spacer...comes with replacement studs.

Anyone find a longer wheel stud that works? I just ran into this same issue. Bought 1/2 spacers and need longer studs. But Steeda and CJP don't seem to have any solutions for longer studs, and I can't find any sites that sell any which are known to fit the S550 for sure.

I purchased the Cortex ARP studs. Had a local machine shop cut them down to length (and did a really nice job of it too). As long as you are hub-centric on the spacers the slightly smaller (1/2") studs will work great.

Uhhh hammer on wheel bearing?

If you strike the lug bolt/hub with a sledge hammer you might be able to damage the bearing races. Nevermind the steering rack or suspension. lol.

I used a large bench vice and a piece of wood with a small notch for head of bolt to push into in the case of an unmounted hub.

For mounted hubs you should be able to use two harbor freight large metal C clamps side by side with metal bar stock or wood over end of lug.

You can use the wheel as a clamp as well but need at least one open ended lug nut:
take wheel off.
put just one lug back on.
put wheel back on and use remain lug to tighten down and press stud w lug part/most way out.
Go around and do this all 5 lugs.
If you get creative you can get all the lug bolts mostly loosen where they will lightly tap rest of way out without hammering with a sledge on your wheel bearings.

I just ordered these from Summit, includes new longer studs with the 15mm hub centric spacers, my front wheel sits in a little further than I care for, so these should do the trick
