Hi All,

A common dislike, regarding the S550 mustang, seems to be the height on the drivers seat. I can only agree that the drivers seating position is too high. Therefore my question is, has anyone managed to lower the drivers seat further than the stock lowest position?

I would be more than happy to swap the stock seat rails for some lowered ones, if that is a thing.

Cheers
Matt

You don't have the Recaros, right?
I expect you wouldn't have the problem with the Recaros.

Are the Recaros with electric adjustment, which were exclusive to the RHD, possibly higher than the Recaros with manual adjustment in the LHD?
The normal seats in the LHD EU are also electric, and they are considerably higher.

How can you measure this in a practical way?
Possibly via image comparison through a defined object on the door sill with the seat in the lowest position behind it?

Do you know anyone with a GT with the normal electric seats to compare?

However, it is unclear to me whether this will help you if you know that the LHD Recaros are lower because the height of the passenger seat (driver's side in your case) cannot be adjusted.

I am 186 cm (73.2") tall and the seating position including the seat height with the manual recaros is good, are you significantly taller than me?

  • Seat all the way down.
  • Seat all the way forward.
  • Recline the backrest until it just rests on the rear seat.
  • Put a straight edge across the very back of the seat base (i.e. not on the seat base side bolsters). Make sure the straight edge is long enough to stick out of the open door.
  • Make sure the straight edge is level.
  • Measure from the underside of the straight edge to the door sill.
I have a UK RHD Recaro car so we could use that as a control i.e. if both UK measurements are the same, we know that the method of measurement is fair and repeatable.
