Anyone have any experience with doing a X pipe with Steeda’s Axle back on a 18+ GT? There’s minimal drone as is, don’t want to lose that aspect but a little more volume would be nice.

How about the Magnaflow tru-x? That one has peaked my interest as I think it would somewhat tame the raspiness. That a res delete would bring along with it.

I paired it with the steeda h pipe it sounds great but cold starts are very antisocial. When you drive easy it's fairly quiet but when you get on it it's the roar of the coyote gods. Once it's warmed up it idles pretty quiet.

The MF Tru X is stock like quiet so if you're going for more volume it's probably not the way you'd want to go.

Rule of thumb, lower exhaust note the more drone. Some of the guys that start a thread with . I want old school rumble, but with no drone. What is missed, that old school low rumble is drone.

Think of drone as the base heard in music. Sit next to a car with the base turned up. You may not really hear the base, but you feel it (drone)

The X pipe posted will be quieter than a plain X pipe. Look, it has a small suitcase resonator, like the one you removed.

If spending 300 bucks for a muffler that's not going to give much. I do 250 for X pipe and have something I could stand behind the car and smile.

I know nothing about the steeda alxe backs. I do know about roush X and axel backs ............ music to my ears. Is the cold start Loud hell yes. But has no staying power, will drop db in half 10 - 20 sec.

Every Mustang cold start is loud and all tone down down shortly.

It is stupid to judge exhaust sound from a cold start. That is not where the car runs or is driven. That sound last about as long as the driveway is.

The utube sound clip cold starts are so ridiculous, it's painfull.

Have fun

I was considering the Tru-X in an effort to avoid some of the raspiness that these cars seem to get very easily. cold start is of no concern, and if I want old muscle car kind of sound, i'll drive my Chevelle. What I'm looking for is a little more volume, without introducing drone. turning up the radio to drown it out only goes so far.

The Tru X won't give you any more volume over stock really. You could add an H pipe that would be less raspy than an X, and could always add a pair of Vibrants later on if too raspy still.

I've had regular X and H, and Tru-X, with stock mufflers. Regular X and H were louder but more raspy / tinny. Tru-X was almost quieter than the stock resonator and did NOT help with drone. Have had 3 different mufflers and they had the biggest influence on tone, the center section had a bigger influence on volume and rasp / vibration. I have LTH Scorpion axle-backs now which are a straight through design with a J-pipe for drone reduction. Ran them with an X-pipe and they were almost unbearably booming and loud (for me anyway). The center console would vibrate as I was backing out of the garage. With the stock resonator they are moderate volume but I love the tone.

The Tru-X definitely tames the raspiness. I had it on with OEM active exhaust mufflers and it sounded fantastic but I wanted slightly more volume. I ended up swapping it out for a Steeda H pipe.

Now I hate cold starts in anything but quiet mode, and don’t love the tone until it warms up and some of the raspiness goes away. Once the car is warmed up though it sounds great.

I had no drone with the Tru-X, but you could definitely hear it when you got on the throttle. The H-pipe though is significantly louder, which is good and bad at times.

Well I have some perspective, I just took off my Steeda axle back. I had the Steeda axle back with the borla switch fire and it was obnoxiously loud, trumpety as hell and a ton of rasp after 4k rpm. I even added 2 small race mufflers to quiet the rasp and trumpety sound down. I just replaced it with the Ford Racing by Borla Sport. I couldn't be happier. The Steeda sounded good with the suitcase still in place. Can't speak for the Hpipe. I have to say I am convinced the SVE, Roush and Steeda are the same mufflers.

I have to say love the way the car sounds now.

They pretty much are, they have the same single chamber design that are all almost exactly the same size. They function as an echo chamber of sorts if the rest of the exhaust has any annoying characteristics you don't like.

I had a feeling that might be the case also. I guess I’ll probably leave it as is and save my pennies to do a catback at a later time to do it right. I’ve had my eye on corsa sports, with no plans of ever doing headers that should give me what I’m looking for

I had the NXT Step axle-backs which also look identical to the SVE/Roush/Steeda designs and hated them. Droned like hell. Booming, migraine inducing low RPM drone.

The steeda’s drone a bit at low rpm (under 1500) under some load but you really shouldn’t be driving at that rpm up a hill, but the really start droning at 2800-3000, though at that rpm in 6th you’re going a little too fast. Lol

Guess someone will need to take the skin off. Have a look at what's going on inside. Lets face it common sense tells us. All round, but sound is not the same, appear to be single chamber, ok lets prove it.

So grab the angle grinders boys and get to work .

The art of the exhaust note, is the biggest ongoing mystery yet LMAO bigger then big foot.

What's boomy, drones, raspy, quiet, loud, trumpery. Is very subjective, and oh let us not forget low rumble.
