CFM Breather

I have two that just arrived from them. I put it on my daily driver Fiesta ST running E30 and 25psi. Going to see how it looks after next week. Drivability hasn't changed, but I will be able to see how much oil is in the catch can after a week.

This isn't going to have an effect on drivibility or oil in your catch can. Its too prevent excess CC pressure if its making it past your PCV/CCV system. If they are working right, its honestly not doing much, you will get a little venting at high boost high RPM. But in case like the case above, you are getting a pressurized CC, then its going to help keep the motor from going pop. Its essentially makes our closed loop PCV/CCV system into a vented OCC system without needing to use a vented OCC.

If there is less oil in the can, it means there is less crank case pressure pushing oil vapor into my catch can system which is closed. If the CFM unit works as it should there should be less oil in my CC. The way my CC system is setup, it has no way to re-enter the system, so with the CFM unit venting it should be less.

Again, that is if it works as it should.

This is exactly why you need it. Its doing its job, you are getting excessive crankcase pressure, for what reason that is for you to determine. This is basically the last place pressure can escape the crankcase under full boost. So basically whatever PCV/CCV system you have on the car is not adequate to vent crankcase pressure under full boost, so it is being pushed out of the breather as it is designed to do.

Now with the breather removed, that pressure is being pushed out seals, etc etc. Wherever the pressure can escape now that is where it is going because you removed the path of least resistance.

You need to find out why you have excessive CC pressure, not remove the relieve valve. I watch mine on the dyno, and even with the dual UPR can on the car it still is venting some pressure at high boost high RPM, but no oil is coming out of it, I can just watch it venting the pressure / Vapors when I do runs. This is exactly what it is designed to do, not vent vacuum at idle so you get proper venting, and vent excess pressure.

Something you prob do not want to hear, but anytime you have excessive oil being pushed out of crankcase breathers, you usually have boost being pushed past the rings causing the CC to be overly pressurized, this is very very bad for your motor, and usually means something is wrong with your motor. Perform a compression, and leak down test.

Its going back on along with the dual catch can. If problem persists what can it be?

It has no effect. And the CFM Breather has a check valve to help prevent taking in air under vacuum.

Exactly what I was going to say. The air that it does pull in, if any, wouldn't make it into the combustion chamber so its not "unmetered air".

didnt know it had a vacuum check valve. sounds good please report back.

I've had one since they were first released in May. It didn't make any difference in the blue smoke stock. It didn't change anything with the oil in my CC when I was running a Mishimoto or gutted PCV and added a check valve to the same CC. I'm running a UPR Dual Valve now and in process of running the car for a month with the Breather on to see if there is any difference. Unless I see a real measurable difference or someone has a really good argument for it I'll be leaving it off.

yup that is why its soo expensive. There is basically a ping pong ball in side it that will close the breather under vacuum. If there is any pressure it will push it open.

I got one as well, no smoke from catless dp yet. No oil in the breather itself either. I've had it for about a month... And I've done WOT several times.
