Haha had a little oopsie on the highway, i was doing about 85 and my hood decided it didn’t want to be latched anymore, completely messed up both fenders and roof. It’s a cervinis 4 inch cowl, i’m really surprised it didn’t crack in half. Strong hood, not strong hood latch bolts:( I’m glad i’m okay and i didn’t crash lol

I take it you didn’t have hood pins… is that something you’re supposed to or never crossed your mind? Not trying to make a bad situation worse, just curious as I am about to do a hood myself

No your good, it crossed my mind a few times to do the pop lock style hood latches but i didn’t feel like drilling into the hood and messing up the look. Knowing myself i would have drilled them wrong and made them crooked😂. It would have definitely solved this little problem but i thought the stock stuff would be good. Probably would have been a good idea of lock tight too😂

I’m more than likely (especially after seeing this) going to do them. Measure 48 times, drill once. Still going to wince the whole time. I still like the old school style with the wire leads tucked into the grill…

Bolt the pins in place, place a glob of grease or toothpaste on the top the pin. Lightly close your hood. Where the paste transferred from pins to hood is where you drill.

Damn, but glad you are OK :like:

I wonder if running without a belly pan and radiator cover could have been a contributory factor increasing air pressure / altering airflow under the hood ?

Oh yeah definitely😂 i’m thinking the front seal that goes along the front had a lot to do with it as well, there was a gap in between the bumper and front of the hood which was constantly blowing up on the hood. When the rebuild comes i’ll definitely spend all the money just for the piece of mind

That sucks man had that happen to me once on my 87 irocz except my hood cam completely off. I went home to get the truck to retrieve the hood. scrapers already took it when I came back I was back in less than 20 minutes. the hood was fiber glass so It was useless for scrap.

Glad your ok. I too have an aftermarket hood. It had the hood pins and lanyard. I changed them because of scratches on the hood from on removals. I changed them to the GT350 style push button style.

Sorry to see that happen. I ordered a Cervini hood ram air last week for my 21 GT and was looking at either the ql 38 or ql 50. Will either one work or is one better than the other? I see the ql50 is heavier but is it necessary? Any input is greatly appreciated..tks in advance.

I have the QL50.. The difference is the diameter. I went with the bigger ones because the old pins i had and plate that was installed was pretty wide. So i had to get the bigger one to cover up the screw holes from the old plate. Working with a blank canvas you can't go wrong with either.
