The only trade off I've found is less dust and less noise.

the stock pads are good for what they are though
Anthony,

I looked at an R model today and the pads look about 1/4" on the material side thickness. But, there appears to potentially be some piston extension (I didn't have a mirror so I'm not sure) so my question is how thick of a pad are we going to be able to put on these cars? The brembos on my S197 will take a .980 pad - basically 1" though the rotor is probably not as thick.

What will be the maximum pad thickness?

Fwiw - I tried some type of ceramic pads (red box sbc?) on my cobra r and they sucked so bad on track it was incredible. That said, I am looking forward to trying a new compound as I'm not happy with my current combo and the R model will also need pads.

Cry me a river, Im on call at the hospital and all the crazy's are coming out. I wish I had time to argue about some brake pads.
Must be something in the water. I spent all day enjoying the weather.

I drop my 5150's off at he hospital and jet as soon as I can

Switched to G-LOC GS-1 for the street and will use R18 & R12 (F&R respectively) for the track. Won't need to resurface the rotors every time.

The stock pads are a really good multipurpose pad for the street and the track. There are obvious drawbacks though.
Just my .02 - I've never resurfaced rotors when changing pad compounds and never had an issue. Get them real hot and everything else works out.

Some of them end up admitted to my place and then Sac county denies payment. As far as ceramic pads, I tolerated Brembo/Ferodo dust for two years on my Boss before installing Hawk Ceramic. They produced zero dust and equal stopping power on the street, or so I thought. Subsequently I test drove two 2015 PP GT's. I was shocked at how much better the brakes felt than those on my Boss so I thought maybe the Ceramics had more of a detrimental effect than I realized. Switched to Hawk 5.0's which are designed specifically to enhance high performance street driving experience. On that Boss I could tell no difference. Compared to the stock Shelby the Boss felt like it had four wheel drums regardless of pad. I'll be interested to hear if the incredible initial bite is retained with low dust pads.

The car is my daily driver. I happen to like my cars clean. This post is the exact reason why I rarely frequent most forums. 97% amazing people. 3% douchebags who judge everyone else's decisions, choices, and actions. You know who you are. For those of you who actually answered my question I sincerely appreciate the support.

To ironic I'm on a break from applying a high quality Poly coat to the wheels. I'll let you know if it makes it easier to keep clean.

I did note Ford has gone on record stating the black wheel is the only option because of the brake dust issue. So I guess I'll wait to hear from others if a suitable sub is out there. I made a sacrificial choice buying this car knowing I might have to drive it more often than track days or on rare occasions. So this means keeping it like new is more challenging than I thought.

I'm also a bit PTSD so patience is not one of my strong points either.

It all goes away when I hit the red button though. So I live with the dust for now.

I have a few sets coming and will check

One thing to note is that since these pads are much longer than the pads on the s197 Brembos it's not as important for the pads to be as thick since the heat as a lot more surface area to spread out.

Also these street ceramic pads should never be used on the track

Wasn't my intention to hurt anyone's feelings. If it came out that way I apologize. I tend to tell other people what I'm thinking, some feel that it's not 'polite', but it does lead to better understanding.

With almost all of the modification talk in this forum about various performance improvements, I wanted to get across to anyone reading the thread that performance will suffer by making this change. There is plenty of deceptive advertising out there.

A year ago, before most people had their cars, I asked a similar question wondering if manufacturers would produce alternative (i.e., more durable and longer-lasting) tires for this car. And predictably, I ended up with a thread that looks exactly like this, with the same ratio of D-bags to amazing people.

It's the nature of online forums. Don't be too discouraged. Just try to mentally filter out the d-bags, because there's good stuff here.

From the coin's other side, it seems that people sometimes get a little too upset when the replies don't go as hoped or expected. Answers based on tech sometimes run into this, maybe more so when cars like the GT350 and the Z/28 are involved, where the average owner's daily driving considerations were not always given priority over track performance.

I officially can't deal with the brake dust any more. I feel like I need to clean my wheels every other day. I want to go with ceramic pads. Have any manufacturers come out with pads that are comparable with the GT350?
If you take the car and put it on jacks for display or drive without brakes, that should cure your dust issue ; )

Ok cool thanks and the fact they are larger certainly will help. And not to hijack this thread as I'm not a big fan of the wrong pad for the application. There's nothing wrong with clean wheels as long as you are willing to swap pads when needed. Everything is a compromise.
