I just had a Census 2020 canvasser darken my door. They are asking for full names, race, sex, telephone, age and DoB and claiming it's "required". They are NOT allowed to ask anything except number of people living in the residence and how many are over/under 18. I was intensely triggered that the only 2 options for sex were 'male' and 'female'. (/sarc)

Their little phone app has a 'decline to specify' button, so make them use it for all the data elements.

I made a point of asking "don't you want to know if we're citizens or not?" When I got no answer I said "there are no illegal aliens here".
Unfortunately I'm sure 99.9% of my fellow residents will stupidly and gladly divulge their personal details.

I signed up for the 8 week 2020 Census Enumerator part time job because I believe the 10 year Census data is very important.
The US Census enumerators get assigned case's (Addressee's) to visit because the Census Bureau hasn't received a response by Mail, Phone, or Internet.
Let me clear-up a few misconceptions about the US Census.
1. It is a law that you 'Respond' to the US Census.
2. They ARE allowed to ask for full names, best telephone number, birth dates, sex, and race.
You can answer: "Refuse to Answer", or also: "Don't Know" to most all the questions if you wish., but they are 'Required to ask'
The most important information they need is a Count of: "How many people lived at that address on April 1, 2020", ages of the people are also important.
It is a law that the US Census data is Not shared with any other Gov. agency.
And as a US 2020 Census worker, we all took a sworn oath to protect all personal data given.

I know when I moved to another State in 2008, I used the Census data to give me an indication of the population of the area I was moving to, and also the average age in that area.
Census data is also used for the Communities to plan for: Public Schools, Highways, Number of Representatives to Congress

no offense but your word means nothing. the data is collected on some low-rent device written by incompetent software developers and further transmitted, collected and analyzed and tabulated by similarly incompetent IT people civilian and contractor alike, quite a few of which are heavily political and data disclosure "oopsie" happens with ease. Yeah yeah I've signed paperwork and listened to all the "you have a solemn obligation to protect the data" speaches aplenty. Doesn't stop dick.

All these questions beyond headcount are optional. The Secretary may concoct some reason to claim he wants to ask for it but sovereign citizens are under no obligation to comply. I'm sure you've been told to give the impression that the answers are required in order to trick people into disclosing information your agency has no right to. I'm sure it's been wildly successful.

Spare me the 'plan for public schools and highways' trope. The USG buys data by the truck load from Credit card and other financial and utility companies that puts the pathetic Census data to utter irrelevance. The Census is only done for political representation purposes. And Congress deliberately interferred with the Secretary this time around with a kangaroo hearing to browbeat him into NOT asking the second question which was, are any of you legal citizens. And if not to zero the count for that address. Can't be having those millions of illegal immigrants being overlooked for purposes of political power...

And yes I make them walk the beat in the hot sun and aching feet. Since I'm paying for it, they're by god going to earn it.

I just keep ignoring the little flyers the census guy keeps leaving me, guy came to my door and asked for my info because I keep ignoring them, said sorry dude. leave me alone. Ive never filled one out before, and feel zero need to give my information. he started saying its illegal to say no to it etc. he didn't say the punishment though, dont care. I dont vote, I dont census, I just live my life. Don't really want to get involved in anything further.

I wonder how many illegals said they were citizens in the last couple of go-arounds... At least this time they don't have to lie. I think it would be fun to have a 2-person team working the street - Census and the other an INS agent just standing, watching.

I think you can get a lighter sentence shop lifting, aggravated assault, looting and shooting explosive missiles and lasers at law enforcement just as long as you do it with a few of your neighborhood friends. I love the smell of Communist revolutionaries going about their work.

In reality each room is used to house a whole family. End result is you have 5 times the population density you'd expect from the type of housing. The tax base remains the same, meaning every public service is strained beyond the point of function.

Not anything so grandiose. These neighborhoods are suspiciously near (but very buffered from) very wealthy areas. Why pay a decent wage to your gardener/lawn service/housekeeper/pool cleaner/etc, when you can just have a cheap labor pool of migrant workers.

Mik, a lot of deep and rich information in your posts. For myself, I can attest to similar observations with a slight variation in the population makeup based on the location and the era that I was an outside observer actively engaged on the inside with that population. Not to detract from the OP’s original topic, but I must say these observations appear to be a regularity, and I feel will only intensify as the wealth differential increases with time. I dunno and just my 2 cents worth.

That census dude is annoying. He's delivered me 6 different pieces of census forms on my doorstep, I keep throwing them away. He even delivered me a new set on my doorstep tonight on a SUNDAY! stupid. ive never had them hassle me like this before. after I literally told him I will not fill it out, he went and dropped that form in my mailbox that day. then proceeds every day following with more on my porch.

Why would you not want the government to have better insight into demographics?

First the gov't is evil personified. That any good occurs is by accident.
Second, they will use any data to forcibly transplant the criminal element into communities that the gov't deems insufficiently 'diverse' be it skin color, economic strata or whatever Politically "correct" whim de jour.
Third, see #1
Fourth, it's none of their GDamn business. Unlike most gov't ours is (ostensibly) permitted to do only narrowly defined things. They are permitted to head count and ONLY that. They are not permitted to broaden the scope just because they feel like it.

yep, he did because I said throw it away I didnt want it, he didn't leave on the doorstep, he walked away and put it in mailbox. whatever though, this is fun seeing how many times he will walk up to my house and deliver this.
