I've read a few articles saying you can use your cell phone to replace that fat key fob Ford gave us with these cars. Is that true?

Is there a specific app I can get for my Android phone to program for my car?

Well there is the old Ford Remote Access app but it may not work with newer versions of android.

Then of course there is FordPass/Ford Pass Connect. FordPass is an app. It does not give you the ability to open or close doors or start your car (A10 only). For that you need FordPass Connect.

All this being said I'm not 100% sure you can actually drive the car away without the fob being in the car. I've never tried it.

No. The Ford Pass app can lock/unlock and remote start your car, but to my knowledge it can not be used to actually drive your vehicle at this point in time.

If you have FordPass Connect you can lock and unlock you doors. If you have an automatic you can remote start it. Once you enter the car you still have to hold the brake and push the start button. If the fob is not in the car you will not be able to drive it.

The FordPass app on its on cannot do these things without FordPass Connect.

Yep...I use my phone almost always to start my car now as I always allow it at least 5 minutes to warm up especially in the cold.

I wish Ford came out with a communicative app that basically acted as your key fob. One that allows you to walk up and use the door handle to unlock, enter the vehicle, then plug in your phone to USB and start/drive the car.
I take my cell phone everywhere now, since my car bitches at me when I forget it.

I also despise the key fob. Taking a cell phone everywhere is bad enough. But this key fob is so HUGE!! It's like running around with a TV remote shoved in my pocket.

And who needs a panic button anyway? If I'm in a sketchy neighborhood, I got a better one that says SIG on it.

That’s what I stated.

Yes. The FordPass app is useless without connect. That’s a given. :p

It's a given to smart folks like you and me. :) I've read threads that no matter how many times you say this some people still do not get it. They think they are the same thing. And the poor Bullitt folks were told they were getting Connect and they don't. See, even Ford doesn't get it.

Someone would figure how to hack the system and all your shit would be stolen and probably your car too

Ford offers the Phone as a Key in the $2000 Convenience Package on a $63,000 Lincoln Aviator (Reserve I).
I would guess that Ford will keep that feature exclusive to Lincoln for a few years...
