Hrm, this is the first I've seen/heard of the buzzing at 3k for catless systems. Is this just an issue for certain combinations or all catless headers will produce this buzz? I'm looking at Stainless Works/Power (lethal sale)and I have a Corsa Extreme exhaust currently.

I want the volume and the extra power of the catless systems but not any annoyance like that.
I have the exact combo you are getting. It's more of a rasp than a buzz I would say. Then it comes on very throaty. Just a changeover in the harmonics. I had to put my cats back in. Extremes and catless were a little much. My neighbors hated me at 4:15 every morning. Honestly it just has an overall better sound with the cats in. A lot deeper and refined. If you want loud crackles and pops, go catless. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the information. I start my car at 7:40 or 8:40 depending on which day of the week it is. So loud startups won't be an issue.

I'm torn as to which sound I'd prefer but I do know I'd really like the increased performance with the catless.

You certainly gave me something to think about, thanks again :)

You won't feel a difference between the two. But I would buy the catted set up as it's cheaper that way. Then buy the catless leads for $46 dollars from SW works. It's what I did. So you can go back and forth if you wish. I got my SW from Alex at AM for a damn good steal. Might try and PM him.

just had them change my order to the hi flow cats. they are 200 cell. does anyone know the oem cell count. and will I need to change my catless tune?
Sorry to have reawaken this thread and some of the info was very helpful! I read in another forum where the CELL count for the S550's was around 700! I had a Borla S-Type with X pipe setup, added the MAK race pipes drove out of the shop with a huge smile on my face "while being in the country which really hides the true volume!", then entered the city and sh*t the bitch was obnoxiously loud and smelly! I had my welder weld the flange back to my stock cut pipes and went back to the original setup! I figured now since I know that it did sound good but was too loud for my taste and if I went with a 400CELL HFC's it should be right where I want the overall volume to be! I ordered these " 3" Thunderbolt Universal Catalytic Converter High Flow Spun Heavy Metal 99659HM" which is the exact same product as the $300CAD Magnaflow 99659HM so atleast I know the quality is good for these two HFC's and will be getting my welder to put these onto my MAK race pipes. I had already known that the 200CEL wouldn't reduce the sound too much but the 400CEL Thunderbolt's I just got should bring down the tone from being catless to approx. 50% when I had no cats, plus these HFC's will pass emissions in all states except for NY & CA but I'm Ontario, Canada anyways. The bonus of having the Borla S-Type also is that you get 0% drone even if you go catless or with HFC's! I'll have my 2 Thunderbolt's delivered by end of week and hopefully everything will go smoothly as planned.
