My 2019 convertible had a terrible drone in high gears when cruising at low RPMs. It was mind numbing. I disconnected the sound tube and that helped a little. Finally put the car on a friends lift to see that the previous owner had cut out the resonator and welded in an H pipe and cut out the stock mufflers and welded in two Thrush mufflers like we bought in high school. We cut all that mess out and installed a new Borla S type cat back system. I couldn’t be happier. Sounds great and absolutely no drone. If any of you are considering the S type I give it my highest recommendation.

I totally agree. I have a full S type cat back and love it. Has a nice tone, very mellow at cruise but barks real good when you give it the beans :) I recently went with Long Tube headers and it got a lot louder but still nice at cruise and no drone at all...

Thought the s type was the louder one? I had borla touring on a few of my other mustangs and loved those for how quiet they were unless you got on it

I have the axleback and love it (keeps factory resonator).

The S type is loud at full throttle but pretty quiet at low to moderate throttle.

S type is quieter than ATAK. Touring is the quiet one, S type is the middle child :) LOL... Of course my S type is louder than an ATAK on stock manifolds now. Headers do that :)

Did you use the “ convertible “ S type or the regular 3” S type?
The convertible S type, there’s not supposed to be room for the 3 inch with the extra cross bracing that convertibles have.

Well yes and no. The 3” will work you just have to put a spacer in between the braces and the body. Parker Performance makes a kit. Main reason I was curious is the Vert cat back looks like it has a resonator similar to the factory one but the coupe version does not.

No resonator, it came with an x-pipe. I think the touring comes with a resonator with an internal x-pipe.

Ahh ok that could be where I was mistaken. I was thinking for some reason they only had the touring for a Vert. I did an H pipe a couple years ago but I want to do a full system in the future.

When you added the axle-back S-type mufflers, did volume increase much over stock?
Yes big time. Especially cold starts and full throttle. You can keep it quiet just tooling around town shifting at 2000 rpm.

Has anyone actually done or heard of anyone fitting the 3” Borla S-type in a convertible with the cross bracing spacers? The convertible S type is 2.5” with chrome tips and doesn’t have active exhaust. Looking for black tips and active.
