Hi All,

So I'm looking for some helpful advice. My car sat over the winter and I forgot to unhook the battery:doh: now I can only start the car by giving it a jump using my portable battery charger.

It starts up without issue, I've let it run for a couple of minutes and even took it around the block however when I pull back in and park it, once it's off it doesn't start so I have to jump it again. I've checked the voltage on the battery and it's reading normally.

I'm thinking I may have to break down and drive it to the dealer as they may need to reset something on the car since the check engine light is now on. Has anyone else experienced this or have any tips on what I should try next?

Thanks

Voltage doesn't indicate battery health. It's how many amps it can crank out when you crank the engine...my guess is it's time for a new one. Any auto parts store can run a battery health check. Fully discharging a battery (especially a 3 year old one) isn't good for it. If you're under 3 years/36,000 miles, it should be covered under warranty :ford:

I'd guess and codes thrown pertain to low voltage...my guess would be that fixing the battery issue will clear the codes. I've seen it before in other cars. Sensors and other computers that the PCM has to communicate with do funny things with a low battery.

Running the engine for a short time will not charge the battery try a trickle charger for 24 hours maybe the battery still has life in it.

Drive it little longer than around the block - for an hour or so - or charge it with a charger. If you go to dealership - if it's not next door - battery will get charged and you wouldn't be looking exactly smart when it starts right on when they try it...
