I'm also located in California and have the magnaflow competition as well as a 3" catless downpipe. Was driving in East Los Angeles right next to two cops (one was behind me) and they did not pull me over. I was shifting early like at 2500 though haha.

You'll be fine unless you drive crazy and rev it like crazy.

Florida or anywhere along the gulf coast. Scenery the same and better taxes and living.

Try again. No mountains and canyon roads so scenery not at all the same. ;)

The best thing to do is move out of CA and get away from all the BS laws. The state has regulated away your ability to mod your car, buy the gun you want, and how much you can water your grass. Why on earth would any sane individual want to stay?
All great points, i've lived in Southern California all of my 58 years .
The State has to be the most anti business on regulations, obtrusive gun regulated, fun regulated it's just overly regulated.
That said we have some great weather and roads .
I also have the magna flow cat back exhaust, as long as you don't mess with the catalytic's or any of the smog equipment under the hood you should be fine.

It's a canyon road. Trust me, you wouldn't want to go anywhere near 85 mph.

TX will be superior when it has Pacific Ocean views like the one in my pic. ;)
They got the Gulf coast, thus negating your argument

Let's just say if it was an option, I'd be living on the east coast.

Read the posts. I wasn't arguing. Someone asked a question and I gave 1 answer to that question.

My statement was an example of why someone would want to stay in CA. It had nothing to do with the beauty in all the other States.

am i messing with the catalytic converter if is switch out the catback only? very new to this kind of stuff.
No. A catback or axle back or suitcase delete are all fine in CA, and don't need to carry E.O. numbers. They are after the fact. Just do NOT touch the cats ever, and if you get a CAI you need one with a CARB E.O. number visible on a sticker or plate on the part.

CA smog laws are about stickers and permits more than they are about results, so be careful. The guy claiming everybody is modding their cars in CA may not have tried to get a smog cert in the last couple of years. In a smog-compliance county (Central Valley or LA basin) that's gotten a lot harder with mods.

The bottom line is that any cop that wants to be a dick can give you a modified exhaust ticket in california for pretty much anything. Be smart on where, when and how you drive, and be respectful when dealing with law enforcement, and you will prolly be just fine.

California strict on SMOG, yes. That just means you go to a lax test shop. As for sound, the idea that cops here are stringent on exhausts is a myth. Forget beautiful V8's, have you heard the amount of headache inducing 4 cylinder imports with fart cans here?
