Hey all just got the JLT CAI put on my 22’ Mustang GT. Question is it comes with 2 plastic covers one with slots and one that is a solid piece. Would really like to use the slotted one to enhance the sound but a little concerned about the hood vent being directly over the intake box. Should I stick with the solid cover or am I being worried over nothing?

Either is probably fine. The heat extractors on the hood don't really let much rain pass through in my experience.

I'd say you fine picking whatever you prefer.

Mach 1, Bullitt and GT350 all have open air filter elements. It’s okay to run the cover that has holes without any worry.

Mine is open to the hood vent. I don't drive it in the rain normally, but the few times I've been caught in it the filter stayed dry. The same with car washing as well.

Its a good question. A fully open filter box under a track style wide open hood vent can cause some issues with airflow metering at the MAF meter.

but the OEM hood vent is just a small slit and your airbox louvers arent as open as a fully open vent, so unless you detect some issues with the tune driveability or rougher engine performance then you’re fine.

Slotted will probably suck in some hot air from the engine compartment raising IAT. I would go with the solid cover.

I would also suggest that you try both, log ambient temp and IAT over several periods. It would be interesting to see what you find.

there has always been a question about the efficacy of open air boxes when they don’t seal on the hood. Which is most all of them.

a bit of work, but it would be interesting to many of us.
