burning oil

trying to figure out why my car is burning oil. I changed oil at 4K and am running 5-20 synthetic. I recently just hit 6k miles and I had to add 2quarts. 85 percent of the time I baby the car on the street. mods to motor are full ARH, steeda intake and tune. I do have a jlt oil sep that fills up quite a bit to. I usually just dump that back in the engine.

Yikes. That doesn't sound good. I wouldn't think that any of your mods should cause something like that. I'm at almost 23,000 miles (Mobil 1 synthetic oil changes every 5,000 miles). I'm also running a Steeda CAI but with the restrictor, so no tune. I don't lose/burn any oil in between changes. I have a JLT AOS as well and only check it at my oil changes. There's maybe a tablespoon or two of oil in it, if that.

I would def get it checked out at the dealership. Hopefully the mods you have won't be an issue.

Do you get excess smoke on start up? Easy thing to do would be to pull your plugs and check for fouled or oily plugs. Can do a compression check on all cylinders too. Also I wouldn't pour that catch can oil back into the engine. It has contaminants from gases and condensation.

I second what they already said. Check compression, take it to the dealer, hope they don't blame the tune for running to rich and washing out your rings.

I don't have any smoke out exhaust at start up. would running rich do this?

everything I'm reading says that burning 1 qt per 1k miles is normal and can do it for the first 10k miles. I swear I didn't have this issue with my old 11 when I had it.

I haven't lost any oil on mine. Running too rich can wash out your rings but I highly doubt that's what happened to yours. Dealers love to deny warranty work and I'd bet they'd use that as an excuse in your case. How are your driving habits? Beat on it often?

Just to clarify, I didn't say that was his problem. Running too rich may have been the wrong wording. It more or less happens when the motor isn't igniting fuel, usually in one cylinder where the motor is getting fuel but no spark. You'd know if that was the problem. What I am saying is Ford would give some bs excuse like that to avoid taking the warranty work. Can't really fight it either if they do sadly. A buddy of mine just bought a new golf r. Immediately started modding and had a tune only for the turbo to blow at 2600 miles. The dealer immediately blamed the tune even though there are a plethora of stock Golf R's with the same issue. In any case I hope its an easy fix and not something major. I'd take it to the dealer and at least start asking questions.

More than likely, this is a manufactured defect either with rings or in the valve seals. Try to baby it for 1000 miles and see if you get any more oil consumption.

Taking off headers isnt exactly a quick install for most people. I can do the swap in about 3-4hrs. It takes most people 6-10hrs. Others it has taken an entire weekend.

yea taking off headers would be hard. I sold the stock exhaust anyway. I wouldn't think headers would be a cause of oil consumption and should not be relevant.
