You won't be in a good negotiating position on your trade. You could get written offers from other places that will buy you car like Car Max or another dealer and bring them with you to try and prevent them lowballing you. I sold my car myself and got about $3k over the rough trade in value estimate my dealer gave me at the time of order.

You're not in a good spot to get a great trade in price. In most trade in transactions the dealer is actually making more money off the trade than in the purchase of the new car.

For the mustang I had them write my trade before I ordered. Granted I'm driving a 12 year old HIGH mileage car so I'm bottomed out, but I needed to know that number before I ordered.

I've dealt with carmax twice and both times it was pleasant. They don't give you the best prices, but they give decent prices without drama. If you have less than 100k I would have them write your car just to see. Their price is good for a week and they'll cut you a cashiers check and your done with it. If nothing else it gives you a real basement price for your trade. (Take into account trades come off purchase prices and lower taxable amounts in some states)

That's what I figured, thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna try and see what offers I can get locally first. I know that it does help out with taxes on the new car in Louisiana.

Checked COTUS and it shows my car as delivered yesterday (4/22). Called the dealer and not there yet - what the heck? I guess COTUS was being a little optimistic....

Dealer called today and said they put a priority on my car so it will be put on the first truck once it gets off the train. I don't know if it's BS or not but it sure made me feel better. LOL!!
My dealer txted me yesterday and said they tagged mine to get expedited, so hopefully that helps but not sure that will speed up the rail time. Mine still shows awaiting shipment lol. :frusty:

Anyone here have experience with car trade in? I'm going to trade in my civic towards the Mustang but with my dealer being almost 2 hours away I haven't gone out there to get a written offer for my car. I'm being told that since they know I'm going in to buy the mustang, they will lowball me on the civic. Is this true? Are there ways to secure a better trade in price? Kbb and nada both tell me I have a $7000 trade in value.
Quick and easy to get an AutoTrader quote. I used it on my trade in and got the dealer pretty close to the printed offer. It meant I came out way ahead due to the sales tax break.

Heard back from the Ford regional manager today. They said that the the information they have for my car was last updated April 8th. They've sent an email to try and get more information, but probably won't get back to me until MAY 1ST... They said its possible that my car has shipped and that the information never got put into the system, but I find that hard to believe since my dealer does't have any shipping information either. Does anyone know the dealerships get their information from Ford or from the shipping company?

The dealer is getting the information from Ford. It's correct that if it wasn't put in the system then both would be blind as to where it is.
I test drove a CO last year that is yet to be delivered in COTUS as of today. Since the dealer has the car and Ford got their money, no one is really concerned that it's delivery was never officially accounted for.

That's actually one thing I just did lol. Too bad I have a dent in my front bumper so it requires inspection before they give me a value. I've got an appointment with a local Honda dealer so I can get an offer from them to take to ford.

This is hogwash. It was delivered. In most cases, COTUS is normally right on with this. My vehicle was delivered on Sunday and on the lot. My salesman said my vehicle was not there when I called on Monday. Yet he contacts me on Tuesday morning. The car was there and he did not verify. If I had not sent him a COTUS screenshot (most of these salespeople don't know about COTUS), I might still be sitting in my cubicle frustrated at Ford, UPRR and anyone else I can place blame. It might not be at your dealership but the owners of the dealership have it somewhere.

That's what i was thinking - the story doesn't make sense. I guess i will stop by the dealership after work to see for myself.

Can a car be released from the plant but not put out for shipping? According to ford service, that's where it is.

Mine is released from plant, and awaiting shipment as well. Sounds like we are waiting on rail cars.

Picked up my car two days ago. Overall it is nice and very fast, but I do have some criticisms concerning quality and the dealership.

Starting with positives. Panel alignment and paint quality are good with zero scratches. Keyless entry, locking, and starting is a big plus. So convenient to keep your key in pocket. The brakes feel amazing. The pedal is very firm and responsive. Road noise is minimal and good exhaust tone. I will not be ruining my car with aftermarket parts. The stock 5.0 is plenty loud and aggressive for me.

Some negatives. Two of the rims have a scratch about 1/8 inch long. There are two very very small chips in the windshield. The manual transmission is not as smooth as the one I test drove before ordering. Feels too notchy. The clutch is the biggest adjustment for me. It is a long push to the floor and it doesn't engage until the last inch at the top. The steering is very firm. Even in comfort mode I wish it was a bit softer.
It came with 30 miles on it. There is a slight leak of brake fluid from one of the pistons on the front driver side caliper. The vehicle was a bit dirty inside. The first two times I started it, it did not fire as up as quickly as I expected, the crank had to turn several times. The dealer was a joke. I had follow-up with all of his promises and wil give him poor ratings. I told him several times not to put decals on the car and sure enough there was a giant emblem on the back, a sticker in the front windshield, and rear shield window that are advertisements for his dealership in addition to a license plate bracket with the dealership name on it. None of these items were enough to refuse delivery, but it does confirm my judgement of Ford in comparison to other brands I have purchased or engaged with (VW, chevy, audi, BMW, and mercedes). Furthermore 2 and a half months is too long to wait for an order of a car that is well into production.

good luck to the rest of you still awaiting delivery. keep an eye out for compromises in quality and try to negotiate a lower price using those issues, especially delay in delivery time. people should understand the time value of money. your deposit could have been invested in something else during the discrepancy between anticipated and realized delivery.
