The wonderful conditions of I-77 where I commute to work everyday has taken another casualty. Getting on the interstate this Wednesday, the car in front of me picked up a big chunk of asphalt out of a pothole and launched it onto my windshield. It was like watching it in slow motion with nothing I could do.

Not going to report it to my insurance company since I can pay upfront and submit the bill to the SCDOT due to it being a cause of the road conditions. Sick and tired of crap being on my CLUE report that is not my fault.
I guess I'll be calling Safelight this week and paying the $465 out of pocket and waiting the 12 weeks to get my money back from the state. :frusty:

Sorry, man. That really sucks. The State will really pay for that sort of thing?

Don't feel too bad. A rock from an 18 wheeler hit mine last Tuesday. Bought a new one from my dealership for 290 installed Thursday. Drove home and vehicle stayed in my garage all weekend. Come Monday morning on my way to work another Damn rock hit the top and cracked it all across. Now I'm on windshield number 3 whenever I decide to replace it.

Yes. Just found out a few months back with a news paper article. I
knew NC did, but if the cause is lack of or improper maintenance by the state, they can be held liable. Our road conditions was the hot topic this past legislative session, and it seems that someone at DOT told someone to stop all maintenance until a bill passes. I-77 is covered with a patchwork of really bad repairs. Some are actually long speed bumps.

These windshields suck. I just had mine replaced about 3 months ago and I am having to replace it again next week. It has a 4 ft long crack across it from a rock chip.

$290 installed is a great price! Is this what other people are seeing for replacement costs?

It was 290 for the glass that's my cost since I work at the dealer. Plus 80 install.
