putting stock clutch and shifter back on sounds rather expensive. Technically dealership can decline warranty just for the off road headers and a tune. Drop by the dealership and explain the situation and if they hesitant or equivocate, then go back and review the stoli posting. Maybe leave out the part about the track. Explain that you were trying to pass an 18-wheeler on the highway, when 4th gear gave out.

Yep...because it's no anyone else's fault but Ford for violating the warranty policy with racing.

It's hard to imagine breaking 4th gear on city streets. Top of 3rd gear is way past the speed limit.

You might want to get an estimate on the rebuild versus the cost of swapping for a Tremec . If it's only going to cost you a few grand more might be better off with the stronger tranny and be done with the remote shifter. You might need a new clutch, driveshaft and possibly rear gears though, depending on your setup

I agree. At first I didn't think the 4th gear should break on an N/A car but top of 3rd is probably 95-100 mph. That's no ordinary shift.

In any case, dealership should know what they are looking at. Racing clutch and off-road headers and a broken 4th gear.

I'd look into getting a built MT82, per the stoli posting.

I broke 4th gear today too. Took off from a dead stop and went through the gears, hit 4th and bam, just revved up. I have longtubes and a RXT clutch with Michelin Sports. Also tuned. My thoughts behind is, I'm probable 30 or 40 HP over stock. The Roush charged mustangs have plenty more power. I feel like it's a defect in the part!

Tremec TR6060 range from 430 lb-ft up to 650 lb ft
with the T56 rated at 700 lb ft

I looked up the Camaro, Tremec 6060 with 2.66, 1.78 gears is rated for 560 lb ft

Don't know but I believe its not a simple as some think.

I'm pretty sure torque ratings are for high gear which is often an overdrive gear. So its possible for an engine to have more torque that the trans is rated for but the car can't reach peak torque RPMs in high gear so you have to look at the torque at the highest RPM the car can get to in that gear.

Also the weight (and I suspect the rear gearing for the same reason) of the vehicle matters, so you have to apply some factor for each vehicle to know the torque rating for the transmission if used in that vehicle. So engine x and transmission Y may be okay in a passenger car but the trans would fail if you put the same engine and trans in an dump truck.

I have no idea what the formulas or variables are.

I do believe he was asking for it's rated torque handling, not how much torque the motor puts out in stock trim.

A hard hitting clutch is the worst idea for a manual transmission. Yet, every joe, dick and harry says throw an rxt in it....
