Brake Dust Answer?

I put it on yesterday. It left a horrible white residue all over the wheels. I started with cool, clean, dry wheels (just as recommended in the instructions). I let it dry as directed. I wound up wiping the wheels down last night with a paper towel (after 5 hours of drying) to get rid of the residue. So I think its probably not going to work for me.

I don't know if any of the product is still adhering to my wheels, but I plan to do some driving today. Will report back.

Its not your fault. The residue wiped off. Maybe there is enough residual product on there to make a difference. The problem is that the wheel is black. The stuff looks great when being sprayed on, but dries looking like crap.

I'll see what happens after a bit of driving.

oh oh, will wait for your feedback before applying that stuff on my wheels.

yes, hold off. I just drove it around for a while and ran my finger across the wheel and viola, brake dust. So apparently, the white residue I wiped off was key in repelling the brake dust. I would solicit other peoples experience before giving up on it though.

I shook the can well and applied it liberally as the can described, it left a couple of streaks the wheel from where it ran down as it dried (As the can also stated) I took my wheel microfiber and addressed those areas. Due to weather I have yet to get the car out, as soon as I can I'll report back in. There definitely wasn't white residue all over the wheels though.

If I may lend a nickel's worth of free advice? Try to stay away from wiping the wheels with paper towels or shop rags. Invest in some nice microfiber cloths (I use black hide any staining). They are far friendlier to the finish, especially black. Just a thought from someone who has learned the hard way.

yep, I hear ya. Normally I use a microfiber towel to wash the wheels, but in a pinch, I used a few paper towels to get that stuff off my wheels asap.

Follow up:

I drove the car tonight to dinner, about a 60 mile round trip of backroads and interstate. Couple of hard brakes mixed in and upon my return home I was please to find only a couple of small spots of dust on the front wheels, near the curve of the spoke where it meets the barrel. Most likely just missed during application. Inside the barrels where the rusty post wash rotor dust usually hangs out was clean. It works as where the spokes blocked the barrel from spray there were spots of dust. I'm very pleased and it makes cleanup much easier.

My next application I plan to try to apply several thin coats as to minimize and runs or thick spots. Thanks to the OP for the heads up.

I agree with your write up and I was also more mindful of how I applied the content, which was more evenly. Here is a couple of pics fo 200 miles of driving from Sunday and today. It's not perfect but the dust is a lot more manageable. This is the second round of using the product. Recommended

Good info, AGGT350. After reading this thread, I tried this product on my Boxster S with its 30-spoke silver wheels, which I despise cleaning, and the difference is night and day. Haven't tried it on my GT350 yet, but after seeing how it came out on your wheels, I plan to.

I'm very pleased with the results as well. After about 100 miles of driving around town , the brake dust seems to have vanished from the wheels.

I would recommend it without hesitation.

They say this stuff is good for up to a month, does this mean a month without washing the wheels or will it go away if i use wheel cleaner !

Are you guys applying this to the wheels bolted onto the car or are you removing them? If wheel stays on is it ok to spray and hit the rotors/calipers? My wheels and calipers have opticoat on them the the dust is just ridic!

I kept my wheels on so that way i was able to spray the calipers as well, most of it anyways.

Bolted on. If you have means to remove the wheels easily I would do that as it will make applying it to the barrel much easier. As I stated above I plan to add 2 or 3 thin coats the next time vs. 1 liberal coating. As it will leave white marks if it runs. If that happens just while lightly with a microfiber and they come right off and it doesn't affect the products performance. If you want to spray the calipers then walk over and spray them whIle the wheels off. It would make it easier to apply to them with the wheels off as well.
