I"m not sure the orientation of the arrow is a GPS thing. While the position on the map is given by the GPS, the way the arrow faces may be dictated by the on-board compass. That's because the arrow moves about even when you're in a tunnel or in an underground parking, where there's no GPS signal.
It looks like a configuration glitch to me. The new APIM and the compass don't speak the same language. I would try those ForScan settings first.

That's what I thought. All connections were there for me on my base car, pretty sure all cars have the same harness as far as the radio goes on 19
That is correct. The introduction of FordPass necessitated standardization between all trim levels.

Have you disconnected the battery for 30 seconds?

I just installed an 2020 8“ screen, APIM, bezel, and radio from a wrecked premium car into my 2020 base and I am getting the same thing. My arrow is always pointing the wrong way. I really dont plan on using the nav but it would be nice to fix it.

My car is a manual, I wonder if the stuff was from an auto and that is why. I’ve never used forscan but maybe I need to give it a shot and turn on the modes too while I am at it.

This is correct, GPS has absolutely nothing to do with orientation or direction of travel.

I don't think the gearbox type has anything to do with it. It's most probably because you originally didn't have an 8" APIM at all. You still had a compass, because even without Sync 3 and navigation the car will still show the direction of travel on the instrument panel, but it may be that the compass is different (or configured differently) in cars with and without Sync. Hence the need for a ForScan adjustment.
I'd wager that someone replacing their broken (but factory-installed) Sync 3 unit with another one wouldn't have this issue.

When i switched from SYNC2 to SYNC3 my arrow was backwards, too.
On my SYNC3 manual gearbox was configurated, but i have an automatic gearbox.
Switched it with Forscan and arrow was correct ever since.

I am curious if the OPs situation has been fixed, for whatever reason today my backward arrow fixed itself and everything seems to be fine. I have no idea how it happened other than dumb luck but we will see if it lasts.

Holy thread revival batman etc

just wanted to add this issue was driving me insane after upgrading my uk mustang from sync 2 to 3. Everytime i reversed the sat nav got a mind of its own and ended up miles off track

finally found this thread and changing the apim data to manual gearbox in forscan has finally sorted it

so thank you to the poster of the fix if they’re still around
