Hi All
Im thinking of purchasing a Borla S type axle back for my 2020 Bullitt. I want to leave the stock resonator in place because I don’t like it overly loud.

I did a resonator delete before and didn’t like how it sound but only cost me 300$

the Borla is way more expensive and just wondered what type of sound I can expect if being any different to a resonator delete.

thanks

I bought and installed the s-type axle-back active exhaust about two weeks ago. The volume inside the car didn’t really change tbh, but outside the car it’s much louder. It sounds more raw and aggressive than it did before, meaner, with more burbles and pops on decel. It’s lovely.

Thanks for your reply.
Would you say it sounds better than regular resonator h pipe delete?.

I don’t honestly know what that sounds like. I’ve never had the stock resonator out of the car.

What about the h-pipe didn’t you like?

Didn’t really like the sound much with the H pipe. It sound very boomy at lower rpm for my liking.

This s-type sounds a lot like the factory active exhaust, just louder and throatier.

I’m really in 2 minds about it.
the Bullitt stock sounds so good as is. But I think the s type will make it even better. I’m not the sort of person who likes it really loud but just more throatier like you said.

The sound is going to be subjective tbh. If you are keeping your factory cats and midpipe, the S-Type would be a louder than stock but not by much.

Now, for an example.. I put the Borla S-Type catback on my Saleen which does have headers and I loved how it sounded but it was a tad too loud. I swapped the x pipe for the Borla resonator and it sounds perfect. I get tons of compliments as well as it doesn't sound like other coyotes. Just an idea for when you decide or to add to your decision.

A lot though, they usually get the ATAK catback and keep the stock cats. And if it's too loud, they add the resonator designed for it.

Now, with all that said, when you do decide, let us know if we can help as we do a lot with Borla.

The s type axleback keeps your resonator. It can make my ears ring tbh at full throttle in certain conditions. The cat back should be even louder. I don’t think resonator deletes sound good with stock exhausts either and am very pleased with my s type sound.
Maybe get the axleback so you keep your resonator

Cheers for the reply.
Yeh I’m thinking either s-type axle back or touring catback.
Although many say it sounds just like stock although a little deeper. That said the Bullitt has a deep stock tone.

It doesn't sound stock lol. Definitely much louder at full tilt and very burbly when you idle around town.

disclaimer: have not driven a Bullit

Check out the Ford Racing system, made by Borla but it does come with a warranty. Installed the Borla sport system on my 2015 with an H pipe and Stainless works headers with Cats.
Was way to loud and just boomed.
First step was installing the factory resonator back in place, liked the system much better.
After 5000 miles it was seemed to get louder by a large margin..

I felt the packing in the two mufflers had blown out, maybe due to my use of the peddle!

Then installed two touring mufflers by Ford Racing and it is just right! Can cruise in town at 25-45 and barley hear the exhaust. At highway speeds 65-90 it is good for a 6 hour trip without wearing you out. If you get on it sounds great! Two years ago installed a 650 hp Whipple set up and still really happy with the car.

Last year purchased a 2021 GT 500, it is quieter than the GT in Normal mode, about the same as sport.

I went full S type cat back with X pipe. Very nice tone, significantly louder but no drone to speak of. Fast forward a few months, installed Texas Speed catted headers. WAY like WAY louder, obnoxiously so. Added the Borla 60661 resonator in place of the X pipe and toned it down significantly. Nice tone is back and love it :) So essentially with the resonator, I have a "Touring" setup at this point.

I've had an s type cat back for 4 years and don't plan to change it anytime soon. With stock headers and cats it sounds deeper all around and at WOT it is decently loud. There are many many other catbacks that are much louder and sound worse. Cruising around town inside the cabin it's not much different than stock. It will scream when you want it to and also be nice and tame when you want it to. It's the perfect cat back imo.
Now adding headers... That's a different story.
