So my dad and I were drinking last night via Facetime and talking about cars. We got on the subject of tuning and how I didn't want to tune yet due to the fact that I wanted to retain warranty. Being that we were a little drunk we started to try and think of ways to tune and maintain warranty. We came to the conclusion that if you could have two ecu's then you wouldn't need to worry.
1 with a tune, and 1 with stock tune. This way, if your running it hard and something goes wrong, you can just swap the stock ecu out and bring it to ford for warranty and they are none the wiser. How legal is this? Probably not very...also, is this feasible? I am no mechanic but know a little. don't blast me. we were drinking. haha.

I know that an ecu would probably be expensive, but if one could obtain an ecu from say, a totaled car, would this work?

Lmfao!!! Not that simple, you need to buy one unique to your car, my friend bought a car that was in a fire and wanted to restore it to make money and flip it, however the ECU was thousands of pounds as each ecu is unique and you can't wack them on willy nilly

The PCM would need to be coded to the vehicle and can't be swapped out without a dealers diagnostic tools and online data server. All of the other control units like transmission, airbags, traction/stability control, and even a/c need to recognize and communicate with the engine control unit.

Not too sure, they plug into the stock ECU though so don't think it will make a difference at all, also they're illegal in most public roads

so there is the problem then. this is what happens when booze gets involved. people start having crazy ideas.
so when people buy these cars and convert them into race platforms, you need the dealer to marry the PCM or ECU to the car? or is this only if you want to remove the stock one, and then put it back into the car?

New question - would you be able to run an aftermarket AEM ECU and just leave the stock one in the car and be able to control which one is active at any given time??

Simpler Question - Can't you just get a tool that wipes the numbers of how many times it's been accessed? OR Can't the tuner get a piece of software that can be undetected

ok. so they piggy back off stock ecu.
catless headers are illegal here in CA. My catback and CAI are illegal also. hasn't stopped thousands of people. just being devils advocate.

from what I understand - this is a standalone system. does not work off of your stock ECU at all. so if someone wanted to drop the coin and use this instead of a handheld tuner (sct or ngauge) then it would not flash your stock ecu...but you would be stuck shoveling out upwards of 2500k for this. still reading. its a long article. but very informative.

alright. this thing is awesome. "Before touching on the harness side of things, let us also highlight the fact the system is compatible with flex-fuel sensors, so switching between E10/50/85 and pump/race gas doesn’t require any changes on the driver’s part; the sensor simply detects the fuel, even the ethanol content, and automatically switches fuel maps."
I definitely hope someone (tuner) chimes in and lets us know if this is feasible. although specified not for street use, headers come with the same warning.

the 2015 mopars have to get a special tune from diablosport with a different ecu. maybe talk to them. not all dealers are going to void a warranty for a tune. at least not around here in kansas
