Yes this is the plan. I agree that the setup is not ideal for poor conditions and I have considered moving to a new platform of even a TH400 but I figured I could try working with what I have before making drastic changes.

Second gear leave and logging the car at the moment. What additional sensors do you recommend?

Rpm, boost, gate position and driveshaft speed will get you started.
