Amen. E92 M3 or nothing. The last N/A beast of the M's. Hell, after getting rear ended in my 5.0 at only two weeks old I've honestly been looking at selling it and perhaps going after an E92. But, every time I turn this car on, it returns the favor. Plus how sh*tty would I feel getting pulled on by a 5.0 knowing that I could've just kept mine.

some of us don't worry about trivial stuff like this
Of course not

And I take that back, best guess so far is the M2 STARTS AT $51k so I was even underestimating that cost.

Figure a few options as you're at $60k.

Similar performance to the GT and my GT premium auto with 3.55s was $38k OUT THE DOOR so... Even had it been totally loaded out with nav and 401A/enhanced security, you're still talking almost $20k more.

There is not many options for the M2. Nav and leather is included as is all the performance goodies. Sure if you want to start going down the route of CF interior and such yes. Generally though you get most of the goodies included in the price. The main option is if you want the DCT or manual. You probably could spec out a M2 for under $55K. The car will weight right at 3450lbs. BMW will build as many as they can I expect there to be discounts within a year or so if introduction just like the F8X cars.

To those who like the E92 as I read in this thread...I will shamefully show my E92 M3 here.

that's a great looking E92 M3

my nearby BMW dealer doesn't have much in the way of manual transmissions. No demand for those it seems. Surprising, because I thought BMW was the "enthusiasts" car, compared to Benz. In any case, looking through some photos, I was reminded why I stopped looking at luxury cars. They nearly always come with a moon-roof. I am on the tall side, and cannot afford to lose any headroom in most small/ mid cars. Aren't Germans tall on average? I didn't test drive any BMW, but all I had to do was sit in an Audi A3 to know it wouldn't work.

You know I had to order the moonroof, being only 5'10" don't have any issues with the moonroof. The new M cars come with a CF roof as standard, the moonroof is a no charge option. Oh I also had to order the 6MT as you say, everything available had the DCT. BTW, the take rate of DCT vs. 6MT is about 60/40 in favor of the DCT. In the US the 6MT is still pretty popular. In Europe not so much.

Thanks for the kudos..:D

moonroof might be an M235i thing. I checked a 228i and it didn't have a moonroof. So maybe I got to stereotyping

is this data for U.S. sales or global sales?
US, ROTW the take for manuals is quite lower. In fact the M5/6 in Europe didn't even offer a MT.

Are you OK? He's just discussing the new M2, in the "Ford Mustang Versus" section.
.
I sometimes wonder if you read the same things I do? I didn't see any comparisons to a Mustang. He posted a link and said he wants to buy one. Never made a comparison to a Mustang! I think you actually have to mention Mustang in the post for it to count as a Mustang versus thread!!!!The first post is like me saying I like pie. Do you understand now or do I need to get some crayons and draw you a picture? The forum has a general automotive section for posts like the first one. OK?

Interesting thread.

We just got out of a E90 328i after 8 years of trouble free ownership and purchased a 2016 EB.
Our search originally started looking for a replacement sedan, but after driving a few, it was clear we weren't ready for an auto tranny and preferred a coupe.

We drove a EB for grins and were impressed--enough power to be fun to drive, nice interior, standard equipment that covered our needs, decent build quality and--best of all--net price before taxes <$25k.

We looked briefly at a 2 series coupe but there were no manuals to drive and the coupes on the lot were all in the $40K range. There was absolutely no way we'd pay that amount of $ for a base 2 series coupe.

As others have said, with BMW you expect a better build quality and possibly reliability (ours was incredible) but based of the JD power surveys they tend to be middle of the pack.

Compared to our E90 sedan, the EB is big (starting to feel smaller after a month) and the base suspension is a bit softer but still acceptable. The EB has a lot more power at the lower end and probably a bit faster but the BMW's I6 motor is smoothness defined.

All things considered, power/styling/comfort/equipment, the EB is an amazing value. Time will tell how the reliability compares.

The comparison isn't fair from a dollar standpoint, for sure. Mustang guys don't realize how many compliments they are getting. German car enthusiasts have taken note of the S550 for it's beautiful design and NA motor. The germans are getting rid of V8s and pair that with the new S550 design and the Mustang might feel more like home than some realize. As much as Mustang guys on the board like to argue different, I don't own my BMW for status, I drive it for kick-ass driving and looks I like. Mustang does all that with a big trunk and is a more reliable DD by 10x.

Here is the thing about the comparison -- the BMW has much better build quality, dealer help, and being a pricier car you'll recoup more total of the purchase (not talking residual). So if I drive the BMW 235 or M2 for 2-3 years, it will cost more but not some absurd amount. 235I say you spend $8000 more than a GT Premium PP, well you'll get 5K back on sale, and then its a $100/month decision whether it is worth it to you. Keep in mind that although the BMW dealer is unreliable, they will flatbed your car and provide a loaner vehicle, super nice. When I've had to deal with Ford for our old Fusion, definitely wasted a bunch of time. Nothing I just said means I think you should choose the BMW, just trying to explain how people are cross shopping so much.

Final cross shopping point: I think lot of potential Mustang owners would like to leave some on the table for mods. If I'm buying an S550 GT (which I will certainly own some day) it will be with a few extra K for mods. I probably would just get a tune on the BMW.

The M2 is nice, but we'll see if it's as good as the 1M.
