I am with you on the bottled water thing. We were known for having the safest water supply on earth, you just drank from fountains and taps anywhere. It's kind of like the Lorax where they are selling canned air to stay alive because they killed all the trees.

Hmm, if there’s an option to buy it outright I’m less angry. I am curious to see the breakdown of what the car costs up front. Will they all come with these paywalled features, or do you “pay twice” for it? First the option of having it installed, then the fee to unlock it?
If they take a $500 feature and make it $300 for the vehicle to have it and another $200 for a permanent unlock I’m not so cranky.
It will be harder to compare vehicles though.

Yeah, the connected drive feature is included in the USA while the car is under factory warranty, and then you pay for it if you still want it. That is not true for options like heated seats and stuff, just the crap like real-time traffic updates, remote features, etc.

In a sense, this reminds me of my F150. It has (well, had) remote start through the FordPass app, but since I got a new phone and the app shit the bed, no more remote start unless I install one.

The '21 Acura TLX A-Spec (not cheap) I briefly had...had subscription and app based remote start. No keyfob unless you had the entire accessory kit installed at $1000. I couldn't believe a loaded $50K sedan with that BS.
