Hey guys and girls, I installed the BMR CB005 cradle lock-out kit today.
1. Took the car for a "spirited" drive on a known section of tight twisty road.
Being a public road, I wasn't willing to push the car to its absolute limits, but I did reach the point of subtle understeer on a few occasions, so I'd say that's about as far as most of us are comfortable with.
To be honest, I the rear felt “ok” in stock trim, which is to say that I was more than curious as to what this piece could actually offer...
2. Took her home and fitted the kit.
The instructions aren't "brilliant", but once you understand them, the install was a piece of cake.
3. You'll need:
A trolley jack
Wheel chocks of some description for the front
2 X axle stands
4. How to:
Crack wheel nuts
Place trolley jack under diff and get jacking
Place axle stands under the side jacking points
Lower trolley jack until it is only just supporting the weight of the car
Commence bolt removal on first side
Lower the cradle until you have enough clearance to get the cups inserted
Raise the diff
Tighten bolts, repeat for other side
Total time about 1 hour
I have a video coming (still uploading to YouTube) hoping this might help a few of you with your install.
5. The results:
Well, the car did in fact feel a little tighter through the turns. It's not a crazy huge deal, but it IS there. I suspect you'd feel it far more on a track day with some decent rubber underneath.
Axle tramp: greatly reduced. I no longer feel like I'm gonna break something when the wheels start spinning. Yes, there is still some tramp there but it's reduced the severity by about 80%
I'm completely happy. Here's no extra road noise or strange clunks, the install is simple and it's done exactly what it says on the tin.
Highly recommended!
