I'm in a dilemma. I have the chance to pick up an 87 5.0 coupe in pretty good shape, not perfect. But it's straight unabused notchback that I could tinker around with. I've owned and loved all my foxbodys. But I also want a blower on my s550 really bad. Thing is it's my DD. I want both, granted I can legitimately do both the adult in me is telling me only one. I need help making this decision. Every time I want to snag up this notch a piece of me says "procharger, whipple, kenne bell" and then I second guess it. What would you do!?

I love the foxbody's also, but it is a lot easier and cheaper to modify one car than two, I say Blown Coyote :headbang:
Of course its always easier to spend somebody else money :D

Get the Fox! My '90 GT and my '71 Mach 1 are two of my old cars I really wish I never sold. The Foxes will be modern classics for a long time, and the number of non-thrashed examples out there keeps diminishing.

That said, I'd get one to thrash it. So much cheaper to buy parts than the S550's. Check out trannies, clutches, motor builds, axles, single turbo kits and superchargers, etc. And a lot of used performance parts out there to get even cheaper. Build it like this and drive like Vaughn Gittin Jr!

If you wreck it, you can take all of the running gear and pop it into a cheap 4-banger Fox shell, or even cooler, build a Factory Five Cobra with it...

Just sold my 90 notch last summer. Car was a 347 Dart with a 78mm Precision. Something is ALWAYS breaking on a fox.

I say get a blower and a beater car to tool around in while you modify the S550

I've had a bunch of Foxes. the last one I sold was an lx with a vortech 306ci engine. 440whp. that thing was a rocket when I finished it because of how light it was. I just don't know if I want to spend $6000 on a car that I plan on tearing stuff out of and modding and DD'ing my s550. the more i think on it, I'm thinking the idea of throwing a blower on the car and getting a beater to DD is appealing to me. Damn foxes just hold a special place with me since I basically learned by fixing tearing them down and rebuilding them.

Keep the 550 stock and you'll have a good daily, save some rubles for a crate Coyote with a blower for the Fox, lighten that thing up even more. Two fun cars!

I say get the notch back only if you can repair some things on then sell it and make a profit. With that profit buy your blower.

This was my plan honestly. Because it does need some minor things. I have a feeling I'm going to pass on it. The guy isn't budging on the price at all. I don't get why people want such high amounts for fox's. There's tons of them out there still. And his listing he said the car had 3.73s, it'd never been in an accident. I pointed out to him that his gears are 3.08 not 3.73s. I could tell by the mph/rpm the engine was turning at 60mph. Plus he wouldn't let me drive it. Neverminddddd :tsk:

I tried and tried to get a fox in decent shape in this area... I drove all around NC looking. I was lied to and people just want stupid friggin prices for the cars. I gave up and sold my go-fast parts off my fox and bought the s550. Almost a year later(9000miles) its Blower Time! :D.
Get the blower man, 10psi and youre making well over 600whp

Sold my DD 700whp Fox I had for 15 years, I was tired of always having to turn wrenches and replacing something:headbonk: Also sub standard drivability for a DD:frusty: Sold and and bought my 15 GTPP OW and drivability is of course unmatched:thumbsup: and now with a Whipple I can have it all, perfect drivability, comfort and when I unleash the Whipple all hell breaks loose:headbang:

I picked up my last notch for 7500 with 130k on it and the original 5.0 intact. No faded paint or rust, inside and outside was very clean. While the under carriage had its usual amount of rust that was it. He wanted 10. I found having the cash in hand in his face ruled his emotions. People ask a lot for them because a clean, non rusted (body)car is worth a lot to a lot of the people that want them. Its supply and demand of it not being a shit box cosmetically. Its a lot less work that needs to be done. As much as i loved mine, its the last old car i want to wrench on. Granted nothing was original on the car once i was done except the body panels. But getting to that point was more than i feel is worth it looking back. Now if i could buy a body in white, that could be entirely different. Ive had a few foxbodies over the 80s and 90s and one 4 years ago. While i love them they just arent worth that much work to me.
