I did a little experiment this weekend. I adjusted my mirrors per post #14 and then took a 1.5 hour road trip. I noticed that even with the mirror adjusted out to where you can't see the car there's still a blind spot. Interestingly enough as soon as the car entered the blind spot the light on the mirror came on. I'll probably re-adjust the mirrors so that I just see the edge of my car and let BLIS do its thing.
I too did a similar test a few months back when I came across a video on youtube (I think it's by Car Throttle). And yes, blind spot is still there, but marginally smaller compared to the way I used to adjust the mirrors. So I would say I want to keep my blind spot monitoring system.

Didn't vote but I do feel it would be helpful with Recaro equipped vehicles. The seat rear is massive up top (like a lot of race-oriented seats) and it
cuts off the rear left quarter window view. I use my curved mirror a lot as well as well as moving my head a lot. In this case I'm sure it would help.

I have noticed it was easier to see out of a friends non-recaro equipped car...

BLIS is great, but the best feature is the cross traffic alert. Backing out of a spot with large vehicles on either side makes it impossible to see traffic coming from either side. With the cross traffic alert you just have to back the rear bumper out a bit and it will let you know if traffic is approaching and from which direction. I do wish they had cross traffic sensors on the front as well, with a long hood like the Mustang, your car can be 5 foot into the road before you can even see past the vehicles parked next to you. To me it's almost a must have feature if you daily drive your Mustang. The only feature I have which I find useless, and could have done without, is the adaptive cruise control, mainly because I never use it. The forward collision warning is kind of nice though.

I bought it on my 15 just to get rid of the spot mirrors. I had them on my 11 and hated them. Money well spent.

Cross Traffic alert...with BLIS

I bought BLIS because the Cross Traffic alert was bundled with it.
A few months before I ordered my Mustang, I was backing out of a parking space between a large van and an SUV. My compact car was so low that I could only see sheet metal out of the side windows. I slowly (and I mean slowly!) backed out of the space. I actually stopped once to hear for any cross traffic.
I slowly continued to back out...wham!!! a woman on her cell phone hits my rear bumper.
BLIS/Cross Traffic has saved my Mustang twice from getting hit the same way.

Do I think it's useful? sure.

Necessary? no.

I'd say if you plan on using the car as a daily or for cruising on the street and want to shell out the extra $$ you won't be disappointed.

My first car was an 07 mustang with the 1/4 windows covered, now that had bad visibility, but I learned from that car and haven't ever thought to myself that this car (s550) had bad visibility.

I will never purchase another car without it, but for cross traffic alert more so than the light in the mirror.

Annoying at times but very handy. It has warned me in a couple of situations that might have turned out bad. Made me take a second look and it was right.

Cross traffic alert saved me yesterday in a parking lot. I hate when peeps drive the wrong way in the parking lots...

I think the cross traffic system in the Mustang is very good at detecting motion behind and on the sides. My wife's Nissan Pathfinder is horrible. It might beep once when the other car is directly behind you and most of the time it doesn't do anything. When backing out of my driveway my Mustang starts beeping when a car is on the street a block away.
For what it's worth my backup camera has much better resolution and clarity than the Nissan's too. I was disappointed in the new Nissan's tech features.
