If it helps we now have OE Style Black Wheel Nuts in stock:

Providing the a correct 7/8 Hex Socket is used and loosened / tightened by hand with the relevant size ratchet / torque wrench it should maintain the black finish. If a Multi / 12 point socket / Metric equivalent / impact gun is used then this will chip away at the finish and can eventually lead to them going rusty being a steel nut.

If any one is also after a racing wheel nut with now have the Monster Nuts for the Mustang in M14x1.5 in pretty much every colour available to really stand out!:

Finally fitted the FP nuts yesterday! (thanks to @V8_MOTOR for the help) Wheels were filthy but they still looked good on...as per stock but in black (no - I haven't got any locking nuts!). Time will tell as to how they hold up.

Will get some better photos when I clean it next.

i think i'll need to get some aftermarket nuts as a few of my stock ones are a bit iffy re getting the socket on. Who knew a major manufacturer could make a mess of wheel nuts.

I agree, and the few sets of cheaper nuts I've had have all gone that way. Well, the gloss black finish diminished, rather than the paint wearing off. These however, in theory should last!

got nuts off cj pony- pretty sure they were gorilla - had to bin them as paint came off lasted mayb 3 years

That was my concern too that they would eventually distort like the originals so i bought Mcgards. I have used them before with no problems and the new ones are of equally good quality. Not as cheap as Gorilla nuts but bot a s expensive as FP nuts which are around $350Aus a set.

I found this thread searching for another forum user and didn't realise I had commented on it so much ... lol.

I thought it only fair to update it with what I did

I fitted McGard's as the long term testing seems to suggest they stand up to the elements better than the Gorilla's. I found them cheapest from Amazon using their global shipping (cheaper than buying Gorilla's from the states).

The bulge is slightly smaller than OE (but still uses all the taper in the wheel) so you do get a small silver ring :

But that's easily fixed with some correctly sized O rings :
